Hi Baraider,

Did you run into the display issue with the latest BIOS with your 2623? I'll stay away from this BIOS for now.

The only two updates I did so far are the Intel Chipset Support and the ATI Mobility Radeon -- these two were listed as critical I believe in ThinkVantage. I also installed the 1G from newegg, thanks for the tip by the way. I installed MS Office too.

The other updates on ThinkVantage are all rated as optional -- have you done any of the other ones beside the BIOS?

Presentation Director, Scroll lock, Ultranav wizard & driver, Away Manager, System Migration Assistant, TP configuration, Fingerprint.

I was reading in another thread that Norton antivirus/ Symantec should be removed for better performance, haven't done it yet.

Have you removed anything that was pre-installed on your 2623?

The first things I did was to remove all Google things, all Norton things, all Intervideo things....just keep all the IBM related things...

I ran the Microsoft Update and got all the fix...installed all the ibm fix....bios 1.06 included...

I did have a BSOD when I tried to create a recovery set.....this is after i installed the 1G ram...so i thought about the bad RAM...I ran memtest for several hours with no problem.

So I downgraded the bios to 1.04 and ran the recovery disc and no more BSOD...I don't know if it's the RAM or bios.

I still had one more BSOD when i tried to install cygwin...

For what it worth, I has Office 2007 beta 2 installed so i don't know if it's the reason...I probably uninstall it and install the 2003 version.

I did make a set of 6 recovery...i didn't see where is the option to make 1 cd and 1 DVD....I plan to reset it to factory state and install everything again to see if i get any more BSOD...

I applied the new 1.07 bios and it looks like they fixed it (even tho it only mentioned 15" XGA in the bios fixes)

all good with the latest video drivers.

I'm also now running the Catalyst Control Center which I wasn't before (installed along with the new video driver).

now let's see if my system will stop locking up with this new BIOS update.
