ThinkVantage Productivity Center Bug - Where/how to report?

#1 Post by Kamika007z » Mon Jun 12, 2006 5:06 pm

Hey everyone,

The more I get familliar with my T60p, the more I like it. The only problem is that, there is waaaaay too many little proprietary softwares installed on it... but I digress...

I found a bug where the shortcut for the "ThinkVantage Productivity Center" software fails to work when you delete the other "ThinkVantage Productivity Center" shortcut from the programs menu.

Apparently, the start menu shortcut (located under run, for the non-classic start menu, rather the XP-style start menu) links itself to the start menu shortcut. So when you delete it from the programs menu and run it from the start menu it errors, saying *.ink (link) cannot be found.

I ended up hiding the icon on the programs menu, because I did not want it there.

Where can we report this bug?

Anyone know?

this happened to me too. I deleted one of the ridiculous number of links to the same thing in the menu and now the one at the bottom of the first-level start menu broke. How did you hide it? I really hate how unfriendly it is to customize the start menu. I went to the 'advanced' tab of Customize Start Menu and it has almost everything else except that.

As far as reporting a bug, I would go to the support section on lenovo.com
now: X61, T42p
before: 600E, T23, X20, T40, X40, X31, T60
FS: Travel Bezel, 100GB drive (OEM Lenovo)

You would have to navigate to that shortcut on the start menu

X:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu

and then right-click the link and go to the general tab and check the hidden box.

Look at the left nav area on this page: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... OME-LENOVO

I would poke around a bit before submitting feedback. This may already be a known issue with the fix.

This doesn't seem to be working for me. If i go into the above mentioned folder, All i see is the "programs" folder. However, in my start menu (i'm using the new style menu, not the classic) there is still the "Thinkvantage Productivity Center" link on the bottom right side of it, and it does not work.

Any solutions on how i can get rid of it?

That's an old bug, er, feature, er, design bug, er, bug. It was an issue on my T42.

If you remove the wrong menu shortcut(s), the ThinkVantage blue button also quits working.

1. Go to this thread on neowin and download Start Panel Editor
2. When you run it, click Restore Default Icon
3. It should prompt you to log off.
4. When you get back into Windows, the icon on the start menu should be gone.

You can go about this by changing a registry key, but using Start Panel Editor is just easier.

cheers!
