Just got a 2007C5U, question

#1 Post by Schuyler » Wed Jun 14, 2006 7:05 pm

Hello, this is my first (well, second, but I started writing this one first) post here, though I have been lurking for some time. As a high school student living on a small island with an even smaller school (about 400 kids), next year I am going to be taking a series of AP classes via this newfangled interweb thingy that seems to be such a hit with all the youngsters these days. Along with this I also have completely illegible handwriting, to the extent in which my school has allowed me to use a laptop for pretty much whatever the hell I want. So, because I didn't want to use one of my school's horrible, unreliable, and cheap dell laptops (my god are they bad... My school has an almost scary knack for buying the worst machines available on the market), I decided to buy one myself. after quite a bit of research, I stumbled across an education deal on the lenovo website (one of the things about being in a small school system, no one knows anything about anything involving buying computers... they all just nod their head slowly and then leave you to fend for yourself). Anyway, I just ordered a T60 2007C5U (14.1', T2500, X1400, 80gig HDD, etc. etc.) for something like 1000 off(in respect to the rules, I wont give the exact price). I was even able to get the thing independently of my school (because they would have just screwed it up and made everything more complicated then it had to be). Anyway, I just ordered it with the slim bay battery and another 512 megs of ram, both at horrendously discounted prices.

I do, however, have a question in regards to the slim bay cover I have heard mentioned here and there. It’s the thing that allows you to remove the optical drive and just walk around with the machine weighing that much less. Now, I ask you, does this machine come with one, or is it something I have to buy separately and, if so, what is its model number (I have searched both lenovo's website and their parts catalog with no luck)? Anyway, thanks for any and all help.

Regards,

-Schuyler

Hi Shuyler,

you mean you want to remove the optical drive for weigth reason?
Sorry to ask but are you that weak that you can not carry 50 gramms more? The dvd drive is so light you will never realize if it is in or not.

The cover doesn't come with the laptop -- it has to be ordered separately. I just checked and TABOOK (a list of thinkpad laptops and accessories) doesn't list that part so unless someone else here provides the PN you'll have to call Lenovo to ask for it.

Welcome aboard and I hope you enjoy your ThinkPad!

Heh, well, no. I'm 6"3' and 220lbs, and I am quite strong. Thing is though, I also am going to be carrying about 45lbs in books (and that’s before I even get to the laptop) back and forth to and around school every day (we don’t have time to go to our lockers between classes, and even if we did, they are to small to fit even my history book alone)... so yeah, every bit helps :P To this end I would have bought an X, but one of the courses I do is videogame design, so I needed the video card
