New WinXP/SP2 Install on T60p

Okay...I just got two T60p's and as a matter of principal I want to blow out the install that came with them and reinstall WinXP/SP2. But when I boot to them from my WinXP CD it starts to copy the files as it should. Once all the files are copied you are given the choice to install, repair or cancel. If I chose install the very next screen says it cannot find the hard disk drive, yadda, yadda! after a few tries I was curious to see what would happen if I selected repair...sure enough same error. I was thinking it may have something to do with all the built in IBM security so I uninstalled everything (and I mean everything!), same problem!
I have searched all the forums and I apparently am the only one in the world to have this problem. The problem is that this is happening on two different machines. Am I missing something obvious?!?!
I thought it may have something to do with the SATA drivers not being on the WinXP CD but I have a couple of desktops that have the SATA drives and I reinstalled from scratch with no errors.
ANYTHING?

This has been answered a number of times already. Go to the BIOS and ensure that SATA mode is set to compatability instead of AHCI. Install the Intel Matrix drivers once Windows installation is done, and then change it back to AHCI.

cheers!
