Inaccurate battery gaugebar

Hello, everybody..
I got one major big problem. When i charged my thinkpad battery up to the fullest, the gauge bar seemed to be inaccurate. It does not show 100%. Instead it showed me 80% and it stopped there. The number of cycles on my thinky battery is only 2 cycles. But why my battery is acting like it has been used for 100 years...??

That freshman member with 116 posts, can you explain what you post? I don\'t get it.

Wait, is your battery actually working fine?
As in, although it only says 80%, does it last a good amount of time or does it run down too quickly?
In the past I have had batterys that have said they were empty but went on to provide power for a good amount of time.

I don't have a T60 yet, but I've got other T series and this might be normal. Open the TP's Battery Maintenance and see if you are set for "Always fully charge" or "Optimize battery lifespan". The optimized lifespan threshold will NOT charge to 100% normally unless you use the battery up every time it is on battery power. Try "always fully charge" (if it isn't already selected) and see shat happens. 80% seems a little low but you never know. Are you also using an appropriate Lenovo/IBM charger?

My charger and stuffs are all original IBM stuffs. Just want to know why it is always at 80%. That freshman member never explain his post properly. Why can\'t my battery be 100%. Is it computer fault or battery memory fault?

Wait, before i start my explanation as insisted by Brandon, i must do something first.
Welcome to thinkpads.com gearguy, rvacha, Huang Zhong Wei (Brandon)
@Brandon: How many times had you charged your battery? When you take it out of the box during the 1st time, you should do a discharge and recharge 3 times to make the gauge bar correct. Ok? No, it is not your computer fault. It is inaccuracy. Nothing to worry about. Just don't drop your battery and don't open the battery or else you risk your life... Lithium ion... read the URL. Don't be lazy...

My battery is charging now. It is going to reach 89%. I had discharged it fully for more than 10 times since last night. Thank you, everyone.

Oh My God!!! Don't do this to your battery. It will strain your battery and your battery will last only a few months and it will be gone.

Why cannot? I don't understand.

First thing to do is go to Power Manager and under Battery Information tab, click Battery Maintenance, then click Perform Reset. That will reset your gauge by doing a discharge and recharge. Like the other post said, don't keep discharging the battery, because they don't like that. This reset worked fine with mine, I couldn't charge over 92% when I got the machine and the reset got it back to 100%.

Why your battery got worse because you did a continuous full discharge in 1 night. Now, must change a new battery.
