Greetings All,

I have a new T60 - Mdl 1951. Single Core with the Intel
Graphics.

I have been perusing this site for a while and have seen this problem mentioned, but no real fix. I have:

- Updated the Bios to 1.07
- Uninstalled the Magnifier

But this annoying problem still exists.

My graphics are set at 1024 x 768. I have Power Manager set to
"no action" when the lid is closed. Upon opening the lid, the screen
will blink and show what I believe to be a 640 x 480 desktop. It will
then blink again, and return to 1024 x 768. The real annoying part is that my desktop Icons have been reorganized/moved, and any open applications have been re-sized and also moved.

Aside from this, the TP has been a great improvement in performance over my previous T40.

Any help wld be greatly appreciated.

You're not alone -- I have the same problem.

The only bandaid I've found is to put the majority of your desktop icons in top left of screen -- they seem less sensitive to reshuffling as the screen resolution changes.

perhaps try downgrading to BIOS 1.04? the new 1.07 BIOS is giving me major problems when resuming from standby as you can see from this video:

This used to happen to me on a Windows 2000 system and it is a Windows problem for the most part; I haven't, however, seen it happen on Windows XP so it could very well be a setting enabled by default on Windows 2000 and disabled by default on Windows XP.

Thanks for the input and ideas. After some further investigation I have found that the same symptoms occur when I do a
Fn + F7.

ie the screen will revert to 800 x 600 and then return to 1024 x 768,
with the same "scrambling"

I did notice that the Intel site has an update to their 945GM Graphics driver. This update is NOT on the Lenovo site.

Has anyone recently installed?

First off, I am quite sure this is not a graphics driver problem.

I believe your problem is caused by Presentation Director. The Fn + F7 keys are what invoke it (normally). Either change the settings in Presentation Director or uninstall it. You can also access Presentation Director in Start > All Programs > ThinkVantage > Presentation Director.

Here are my thoughts on this: Presentation Director is changing the resolution of your display, but it is a Windows problem that scrambles the icons when the resolution is changed. Not much to do about that without loading an outside program such as the one posted in the link provided previously.

It looks like lenovo tried to fix this w/ bios 1.03:

Version 79ET57WW (1.03)

(Fix) When a LCD lid is closed and opened again, the screen resolution may change. This will happen only on the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 models only. (BIOS)

Above article very clearly shows that IBM still own the Thinkpad brand (and by extension, the Thinkvange softwares which I agree seems to be slipping lately--they are losing touch of us users...)

I just read the above article, and I disagree with your read of it. The above article says nothing about IBM currently owning the ThinkPad brand. It says that Lenovo just made a deal to license the ThinkVantage technology (software) from IBM. Since nearly all of this software was initially developed by IBM, it appears (from the article at least) that IBM has continued to own the rights to it - at least up till now.

It was widely reported in the news that IBM sold their PC division, including the ThinkPad line, to Lenovo just over a year ago. Apparently this did not include all the rights to the software that IBM developed for the PC division (based on the article you linked).
