How to make a DVD recovery disk

#1 Post by jagged » Fri Jun 30, 2006 11:35 pm

Hello,

I'm expecting my new T60 soon but I have a question about making DVD recovery disks.

With my current T60, I tried using DVDs in the process but my computer can't seem to recognize them as DVDs and still asked me for additional CD's. I read somewhere that using DVDs, you only need to use 2 instead of 7 CD's .

I don't recall in the recovery disk software too asking me if I like to burn copies in CD or DVD. Can anyone help?

Btw, I'm sure that I have a DVD writer with my T60 hehe :)

There are DVD-Rs and DVD+Rs. Perhaps only one of them is compatible with your burner, and you were using the wrong type?

For the record, the first one has to be a CD, the remaining disks can be done on one DVD...if I understand what has been previously stated about the process.

The first one can be a DVD as far as I am aware its just a waste as it only contains a CDs worth of data regardless so you might as well use a CD for the first one and a DVD for the second.

It might just have been bad media as the T60 drives should be able to burn to all formats, try some good quality blank DVDs (like TY or TDK) and check just burning through the Roxio software to the media.

I see. I did the first one in DVD and for the next, my T60 scratched like 2 or 3 DVDs and finally worked when I put in a CDR instead.

I actually ran out of DVDs at the time so I'm not so sure if I can make a backup using a DVD.

The T60 DVD writer should have no problem with either DVD- and DVD+ right?

in the past, during the creation of recovery CD's, the process has been very critical of economy media..

i have more than a few narrow holes in the wall, here, from sailing a partially written CD across the room.. until i learned to use good quality branded media..

Mmm, yes, good advice; don't ever get cheap on media to be used for archival or R&R purposes.

I also have some of those slits-in-the-wall; usually, though, they are from those AOL CDs...They *do* make convienent coasters and short-range frisbees don't they? :)
