BIOS Version 1.7 Installation
Could anyone who has successfully installed this version give the correct instructions. I tried looking at the provided help file, but using its instructions does not work, and simply trying the exe files in the package doesnt seem to work either. Any help would be appreciated.

I upgraded to 1.06 a week ago, everything was done using software installer, not system updater. It was pretty automated compared to my other models, it may be different for 1.07.
Please read the issues some are having with the video and the 1.07 upgrade before you continue.
I'm waiting, as everything is working good for me (well, except for this annoying wireless thing) right now.

Pay close attention to the people who actually have done the upgrade, hoya, and irfan give some good comments.

I have the 3945 on sale now ...lol....I've been using the intel line of card for a long time, 2100,2200,2945,3945...now time for a change.
i have the linksys wrt54g router so i want to try the see if it is better.
So far so good, the signal have been 100% solid, no drop yet. The next task is to get it to work on ubuntu

Baraider,
1) Did you notice much improvement ? You removed the Intel and installed an Atheros card, right? Did you buy the Atheros direct from lenovo.com or somewhere else? I find my Intel very sluggish and I am about just ready to switch to Atheros.
2) wireles card replacement, how do you go about it?
is that about the same procedure as for RAM (five screws under neath, remove bottom, pop up palm rest> then what's next?
3) HDD upgrade
I see in you signature that you upgraded your HDD. Hitachi, from newegg? How much was that? what did you do w/ the old HDD? external slim case for back-up? or extra HDD via CD bay?
as always, thanks Baraider

guYom, lenovo sent me a replacement intel card and i replaced it, just a matter of removing the palm rest and the keyboard and the two screws securing the card and antenae leads on the card.
I had asked for an atheros after i told them this intel wasn't cutting it, but the policy is "what it is shipped with".

The signal is 100% now...haven't lost connection since. I use window default connection manager, not Access connection. bought it from levono directly. I'll ebay the 3945.guYom wrote:Baraider,

yes, remove the keyboard and replace the card. be gentle with the wire connection.guYom wrote: 2) wireles card replacement, how do you go about it?

around $165 shipped. The old HD is defective and IBM is shipping me a replacement. It's back ordered on that drive so i'm still waiting. The new HD is much faster. When i got the replacement, I will ebay it or use it as a backup for my main SATA.guYom wrote: 3) HDD upgrade

I did the upgrade without any problems.jjesusfreak01 wrote:Could anyone who has successfully installed this version give the correct instructions. Here's what I did:
1. downloaded the executable package
2. ran the executable, which unpacked files
3. opened up a command prompt window
4. from the command prompt, went into the directory with the unpacked files
5. also from the command prompt, ran the WINUPTP.exe
Pretty much what I found here:

Hi Laundromatt,
I am still under 1.05 (I stayed away from 1.06 based on comments read here on the board).
Would you advise the update to 1.07 ? I tried to read the release note, I am not too sure about the benefits of going from 1.05 to 1.07? I understand there were problems with 1.06 and we should stay away from that version.
What are the improvements of 1.07 over 1.05?

My T60 came with 1.05. I noticed the "grainy display" problem on gray windows that other people have experienced, so I went down to 1.04, which solved the problem. I saw that 1.07 also addressed the grainy display problem, so I upgraded. The problem is fixed with 1.07. I haven't noticed any problems with 1.07.guYom wrote:Hi Laundromatt,

could any one with 1.07 try this: while on AC power, place the machine in standby mode. unplug the machine and resume from standby. then, while still on battery power, place the machine in standby mode and again attempt to awake from standby. after upgrading to 1.07, my system no longer wakes from standby on battery. i started a thread discussing my issue here:

Hi Hoya,
I ran your test under 1.05, no problem with 1.05 it does wake from sleep when battery powered. I am still debating whether I should update from 1.05 to 1.07.
It would be interesting to know if your 'condition' is due to the 1.07 update.
The thing I have noticed a couple times under 1.05 is that when I put the lappy to sleep using my USB keyboard (not the TP's) I cannot wake from the USB keyboard, nor can I wake from the TP keyboard, the only way to wake is by pressing the on/off switch on the TP. Also if the lappy goes to sleep by itself (without me pressing Fn + F4 or the Sleep button on my external USB keybaord) I have the same situation.
Laundromatt, regarding this grainy situtaion of yours, I have noticed some discolaration on my screen, shades of pink on a white background, I am under 1.05, not sure if it is the same thing as what you call grainy, how can I check if I have the grainy stuff you are talking about?

That sounds similar to what I was seeing. The place that was most noticeable was on an open Internet Explorer window, in the gray area around the Toolbar/Menus. From certain angles, it looked slightly multicolored.guYom wrote:Hi Hoya,

You know, you can always go back down to 1.05 if you find that 1.07 breaks something.

Thanks Laundromatt. That's exactly where I see it too in the IE, I was wondering what that was all about.
I believe 1.05 is nowhere to be found, if I recall those who upgraded from 1.05 to 1.06 had to go back to 1.04.
Was there anything else in the 1.07 update besides the grainy issue that got resolved?
By the way, do you have any issues with your Intel 3945 Wifi card?

There probably are other issues addressed with 1.07 - check the readme for the listing.guYom wrote: Was there anything else in the 1.07 update besides the grainy issue that got resolved?

And no, I don't have any issues with my wireless card. It works like a champ with my Linksys wireless router.

I know the situation seems to be different with every user, but ill report my findings anyway. The 1.07 update does messup ATI Powerplay compatability. I reverted back to 1.06, which, although there are some bad reports, has not given me any problems. Magically, Powerplay works again (the standby thing).

Also, regarding powerplay: when plugged in and you change the settings for what speed it should run when plugged-in, high-battery, or low-battery. It saves them when you press apply. When you remove the ac adaptor connection, then go back to powerplay settings, the settings all revert back to "Optimal Battery Life" (the lowest performance settings).
Even the newest drivers from ATi do this as well.... quite possible a BIOS bug? I haven't tried it with the 1.06 BIOS, as I am running the 1.07 BIOS.
Does anyone know how to report these bugs to Lenovo?
