I second this suggestion. The one thing that I did not consider previously is taking pictures... a terrific idea. Something that I will certainly do the next time I have to send mine in. Regarding their re imaging of the drive in the name of trouble shooting, they did this to mine. So by all means keep your drive. Speaking for myself I have found this forum to be a wealth of knowledge and experience sharing that is priceless....

Hmm, in that case, I can take it in sometime tomorrow and see what they say.
I will do the pictures thing, and then take out the RAM (my RAM, I will put the original RAM in there - although I don't look forward to dealing with that stupid palm rest again), HD, and battery.
If they give me a hard time about it, I will just say I lost it and see what they do.
If they are fine with it, good, if they are going to give me a hassle, (as in refusing to service it) then I can just bring it by another time.

I finally had some time and brought it in last Friday, told them what I had tried and offered my opnion that it was the motherboard that was gone on it. They said that it should be ready in a few days, and I asked them if it was the motherboard that was gone, how would that change the time to fix it - they said that they would have to order the part and that adds a day or two.
I called back today to see the status of it and they are ordering a new motherboard for it (go figure) and they said it should be delivered by Monday/Tuesday of next week and then ready a day or two after that.
Not exactly speedy service, but at this point, I just want my laptop back and working.
One question as to why this may have happened and what I can do in the future to avoid it:
How likely was this caused by me? I had the laptop about half a month and it was brand new, straight from CDW. I did not travel with it, and it literally came out of the box and then went immediately to my desk.
I set it up so that I could close the top and it would stay on, hooked up to my 2405 Dell monitor, and then also plugged into the monitor's USB port which then had a printer off of it, a usb keyboard, a usb mouse, a microphone, and then ethernet plugged in (for some reason it would sometimes drop the wireless connection, so I just put in the ethernet and let it figure out what it wants).
It essentially ran like that non-stop for 15-17 days. How bad is that (in that I wasn't turning it off) for the system? If that is not good, would having a similar configuration in a docking station be better for it, or no different?
Really the only time I can have it off is while I am sleeping these days, but since the monitor went to sleep on it and the top was down, I didn't give it much thought and left it on (fine for a desktop, but perhaps with the laptop that lead to it overheating and messing up the motherboard)?
I figured it was at least worth asking so that I don't do it again in the future.
