I got this problem.
When i start my T60 yesterday morning, i got this blue screen indicating that there is some user checksum image error. System cannot boot because user checksum image is different from the computer checksum image. I switch my computer off then wait for 2 hours later, then i switch it on again. When it comes to IBM logo, everything is fine except after the IBM logo, now it appears black screen. Missing Operating System. It seemed to be working but i don\'t know why it cannot boot into windows. There is this sentence missing operating system but why the computer freeze there and refuse to boot? I checked every nook and corner for smoke but nothing.
Why my computer hang and refuse to boot all of a sudden? :-(

Your title seemed kinda unattractive.
Your problem--> HDD failure

Go change a new HDD and run your recovery CD and boot with the new HDD will solve your problem.

Good Luck. :-)

When the IBM logo screen comes up press F11 and see if you can recover the system. Call IBM and get some recovery CD's if that does not work.

Kyocera Senior,

I think this guy never search before posting this thread. What he is having now is exactly the same problem as my R52. No way to boot from the HDD and recover by pressing F11. Because the Hdd is already severely damaged. when he saw the blue screen with the error header checksum does not match user checksum, and image corrupt, this means that his HDD is at least 80 - 90 % gone.

Only solution: change HDD and use the recovery and upload the image back and boot from there. My R52 is okay and running fine now. :-)

@Gabriel: what did you do to your computer before it stops working? Did you drop it or did you abuse it?

I pressed F11 and my computer showed me another error. Missing Operating System.

Surely this T60 is still under warranty and if so IBM/Lenovo will send a new HD and some recovery cd's if needed.

As i had mentioned in the post above your post, it is HDD failure. Go change a new one.

Recovery disks are disks which you SHOULD create to help you restore your system when something similar to this happen.

Why use annoying colors and text to point out the obvious?! Can you stop it?

Gabriel; do you have another laptop or HDD handy for testing? Getting the Missing Operating System error does not necessarily indicate HDD failure. Especially if the system doesn't cold boot.

You can download PC doctor here to run some tests.
If you have a Hitachi hard drive installed, there is the Drive fitness test available for download.

Run one of these tests and keep the results ready when calling IBM.
