I posted this on Z series but haven't got any replies, so I thought may be people with the T60 might have some helpful solutions.

I finished performing a fresh install of Windows XP on my new z61t. Everything went smooth and all drivers are installed.

I noticed something though, my power scheme used to have ThinkPad Recommended/Enchanced or something like that before the clean install but now I don't have it anymore.

Currently I have only the followings:
Maximum Performance
Maximum Battery Life
Timers Off (Presentation)
Power Source Optimized
Power Off Display

I even tried installing the Power Management software from Lenovo site but no luck. Anyone have any recommendation?

Regarding the original question:
There are some people who managed to bring back the functionality of their power manager by making some changes in the registry. For me it didn't repair it though. On the other hand you will most probably have much better temperature and fan management when using windows to control your power settings.

Why? IBM makes a great preload. It wasn't always that way, but today it is. *Everything* just works. Tune the odd driver and IBM app the way you wish, and it runs well.

If people wish to discard it and do it their own way, they should equip themselves with the skills first.

We get so many of these "My own install screwed up - help" that I will concede my response was brusque, but still right on.

Well said! I find the benefits of the IBM preload quite usefull. True I discard the Google bits, which is quite easy and not time consuming. The end result is terrific.

Since some people (tinkerers) do not assume they are brain surgeons, why do they think they know better than the engineers that build a great product like the ThinkPad?...

In the end it all boils down to everyones preferences. I'd rather prefer a clean system without any crapware that WILL sit somewhere in your system, even after an uninstall. I stripped off virtually every preinstalled software there was. Now it works like a charm. But just because someone was trying to customize his system the way he wanted it to is no reason to tell him that he is screwed.

I don't see why some people label the IBM apps as "crapware". Most users will find some of the apps useful. And one can easily uninstall those that one doesn't need. But, if one decides to throw them all out by a fresh Windows install, then, as jdhurst made clear, one risks eliminating something that would have been useful.

To ThinkZ61: The power scheme you miss is ThinkPad Default. But it's just a bunch of settings that you can recreate by hand.
