T60 ultrabay problem

#1 Post by NS » Sun Jul 09, 2006 10:19 pm

Sorry, for being a dumb [censored] here.

I accidently took out my T60 ultrabay drive and i forgot about the latch. When i took the ultra bay out, i accidently press the latch back and after that i place my ultra bay drive back into the computer without pulling the latch out and now, when i want to get the ultra bay drive out again, it is stuck inside. I need the latch to pull the drive out but now, the latch did not hook onto the drive and now it is stuck. I am thinking of using a plier and pull the drive out but i am afraid that there will be damages to the ultrabay combo drive.

So now, how can i take the combo drive out? :?

I need suggestions and advices here. Please help.

I've done this. You need to sit the ultrabay latch into the little groove at the base of the ultrabay. It needs a little bit of twisting and pushing down. I'm now going to be unhelpful, and say that you need thus the right amount of force. Too much and it will snap off... that's worse. You'll know it's worked because it will slide in cleanly and stay in the bay floor.

I must say, as a person new to thinkpads, I find the ultrabay latch one of the flimsiest bits of engineering I've seen, quite unlike the rest of the TP, whick is built like a Tornado...

Thank you for your reply but i want to know how to get that stuck bay out from the bay drive. I can't move and twist the thing when it is fully stuck in the drive.

I tried using scotch tapes and glue and whatsoever but the bay is firmly stuck. Can i shake the TP and force that thing to drop out??

Tried asking in another board and their responses can drift all the way to PDAs and handphones and not a single response answer my question at all. :x

Pls help me. I can still use my ultra bay to burn Cds DVds but i want to get the drive out. :-)

My error. I misunderstood your use of 'the bay' to mean 'the device in the bay'. I'm not sure how to proceed, then, without physically seeing and feeling the state of the latch. Apologies for stating the obvious, but can, by pushing the latch in and out, you get it to relatch the bay device?

No, it is not your error. I am using too much short cut language. My question is unclear as stated in 1 of the PM from another member. Sorry. My apologies.

I got it out already. My friend helped me. Use a round head twistzer and clip the drive gently and pull it out inch but inch. No scars and nothing happen. :-)

Sorry for the unclear question.

How about a taking picture of what you are talking about, because I am not too sure that I understand either?
