Backlight flooding/bleeding... Anybody not have it?

#1 Post by ScreamingBroccoli » Mon Jul 10, 2006 9:58 am

On my new t60 the screen has some backlight flooding on the bottom edge. I called IBM up and they are sending me a package so they can look at it. There is about a half of a cm where it is pretty bad (it's really noticeable on the bios boot, windows load and etc). It is not like this on the top. I want to know if you guys have this problem, because I don't want to send it in only for them to tell me that this is as good as it's gonna get, or get one back that is worse! It is not like this on 2 large LCD monitors I use for desktop computing, so I don't think it should be like this on my laptop (especially seeing that it cost $1500, good thing I got it as payment for some work I did...). I do websites and light graphic work so it kind of bothers me, I could live with it but I'd prefer not to. Any one else have this, or are the majority of your monitors good as in uniform lighting all around?

Thanks
-Matt

yes, I have the same on my T60. there is only one backlight on these panels, located on the bottom, so the bottom half is brighter than the top half. I find this to be more noticeable during boot when the entire screen is black.

So it's not worth sending it in? It's a minor gripe and I could live with it. It's really only notice it on a totally black screen. Just want some other input, just to see if anyone doesn't have it. BTW, 14" screen.

I have experienced a problem with uneven backlighting on the 15" Flexview screen on my T60p (2623-DDU), but I am uncertain if it is related to the problem that you are having since I only observe it when the background is black. The very bottom of my display has a dark band that curves upward at both edges. The lower half of my display is brighter when it is set to black, however, it appears to be evenly lit when set to white (or red, green or blue).

It seems worthwhile to send it in, especially if it bothers you. If everyone is willing to "live" with this problem, there is little motivation for Lenovo to improve manufacturing/QC standards.

In my case I am debating whether to ask for a replacement or to return it and find something else:

Good Luck.

I only see it on the black background as well. I'm willing to live with it because I was using my friend's toshiba today, and although the screen is ok (lower resolution...) it is much thicker, uglier and not as well made. The similar dell line isn't even close to the quality of the think pads either (their screens are terrible).

I have 30 days to send it in once the box arrives, I will send it in if I find a few people that doesn't have this issue.

When I look at the screen straight on (all black screen), the lower half of the screen is whiter than the upper half. However, if I raise my head up a little higher, the whole screen appears to be evenly lit. The only exception are the bottom two corners that are slightly darker than rest of the screen.

During pratical usage, I don't notice any problems.

On the T60 1400x1050 15" flex I had a bit during march, you could tell there was a bit of leakage, as the windows taskbar had 2 shades of colors from the bottom half being a bit brighter than the rest. Unluckily for that laptop, about a week after a blob of leakage the size of a fist came from the bottom left edge, and really messed up the looks of the display. The hinge on that was also loose on that side, and squeaked a heck of a lot opening and closing.

Absolutely no leaking here - in fact this laptop has been near perfect to be honest.

on an all black screen like the load up ones, you don't see any light at the bottom?

Well, I just sent it in, hopefully they won't keep it too long. I'll let you know what they say/do to it. BTW, I packed the stuff up and forgot to write down where you can check your RMA status, anyone have the link?

I've got leakage on my 2623d6u. Very noticeable on a black background. However I'm willing to accept it as the only con to this laptop. The hardest part is going from my 21inch lcd to this.

same model I have ;) If they can't do anything about it I'll be a bit dissapointed, but everything else exceeded my expectations. I'll keep you posted.

Well, I just got it back a few minutes ago and after some testing I'm glad to say it was worth sending it back in. There is still the issue that the bottom is a bit lighter than the top, but it is nowhere near as prevelant as it was before. There is not line of white on the bottom like I had before :) Yeah! The only issues were it took them a while (I didn't get the 2day turn around like some of you), the opening and closing of the lid was creaky (but after a few openings and closings this was resolved, no more creaks) and there were fingerprints all over the screen (thank god for microfiber cloths). I'm very happy with it now, and I suggest if you have a similar problem that you tell them to fix it!
