Wireless Radio and Access Connections issues
Wireless Radio and Access Connections issues
Hi all....
I was hoping you could assist me with wireless/AC issues I'm having with my new T60. I searched but couldnt find anyone with the same problem. Right now I'm using Windows wireless to access the internet because Access Connections does not work. When I FnF5 and attempt to turn on the wireless radio the button does absolutely nothing (the BT works however). Even when I disable "Use Windows to configure Wireless Networks" it makes no difference. It should come as no surprise that when I ask AC to find wireless networks it doesnt find any. It's essentially acting as though the wireless card is off.
Any ideas?
I'm not sure if it matters, but I recently downgraded my bios to 1.04 to fix the grainy screen. Otherwise everything else is up to date. AC is version 4.12.
Thanks for your help

My AC version 4.12 also got me switching the wireless on after every few minutes of surfing. The thing will turn itself off automatically. I am using windows wireless and i had disabled AC and everything seemed to run fine.

I am not using wireless card. I am using the built in antenna. But i got linksys wireless card for my R52 and i can try this as well. I will swap my linksys card to my T60 and let AC take over the control and let's see what it will turn out to be. Hold on first.guYom wrote:Hi NS,
With which wireless card were you using AC 4.12 ?
Give me 15 minutes to try out this test.
@NS,
I think he meant whether you had the Intel card or the Atheros (sp?) wireless card. Unless you personally changed it, and I'm assuming you got your Thinkpad here in Singapore, you're most likely to have the Intel card.
@jackallll,
Have you tried re-installing the wireless drivers (rather than the AC software)? Running the installation from Software Installer worked for me when I was having a similar problem in the beginning.
cheers!

Hi Ramian,
Yes I was refering to the integrated wireless card.
What about you Ramian, do you have the Intel or Atheros card?
If Intel 3945abg, can you tell me driver version you use?
I know many have given up on Intel 3945 and are swaping with the IBM Atheros (out of their own pocket), I'd still like to see if we can get a good, solid reception with Intel 3945abg.
I am using AC 4.12, Intel 3945 w/ driver 10.1.0.13.
I downloaded the software 10.1.1 from Intel website, but haven't installed it yet. On the Lenovo site it says the update is not necessary with card 3945 abg.
Anyone using Intel 3945abg with success, I'd like to know what version of AC is being used and with which Intel driver. Same question if you are using Windows to connect. Although in my case the connection was even poorer with Windows.
Thanks.

I've got the Intel card and other than the first time I had this problem (which I solved by installing the drivers again), I've yet to have any problem with my wireless connectivity. I'm using driver version 10.1.1.13 and AC version 4.12. I am using AC to manage my connections and again, don't have any problem with it. I used the XP wireless config to connect in the beginning, but couldn't get a consistent connection; switching to AC solved that problem too.
I ofcourse haven't tried it out on any other wireless connection other than what I've got at home (Linksys WRT54G), so I don't know how things will work out if I do connect to other networks, but so far, I'm more than a happy and satisfied Thinkpad user.
cheers!

I'm still having problems with the wifi card. Haven't been able to connect to a single ap. I've tried all the suggested repairs to no avail. The card sees the aps but when I try to connect, the wifi card doesn't get an ip address, even though the setting is on automatic. Any suggestions are welcome.jackallll wrote:Thanks for the tips. I actually reinstalled the wireless drivers twice. First time didn't work, second time was a charm. Looks as though everything is working correctly.
TIA
I encountered the same problem with T60 laptops in our office. I found on this web site that the Windows XP wireless and IBM AC conflict.
To resolve go to control panel / admin tools / services. Scroll to the bottom to wireless zero configuration. Turn it off and set it to manual (instead of auto).
This will let AC take hold without conflict.
It fixed our wireless connection problem.
