Display refresh rate

#1 Post by jackson » Tue Jul 11, 2006 9:07 pm

Hi,
Just received my T60 about a week ago.

Been having headaches and eye-strain after using it for more than one hour.

Discovered that the display refresh rate is 60Hz only and am not able to change it higher.

My resolution is 1400x1050. Display adapter is Intel 945GM 128MB. Monitor is Thinkpad Display 1400x1050. Color quality is 32bit.

What I have tried:
1) Change to a lower resolution but as has been posted in the forum here, when changing to lower resolution, the monitor becomes soft or blurry.

2) Change to 16bit color; no change.

3) Tried to change the monitor but unable to; Went into device manager, deleted all monitors listed under monitors, rebooted. All the monitors that were deleted came back.

4) Updated adapter driver to 6.14.10.4450. No change.

Note: when I say no change, it means the option to change refresh rate is only for 50Hz and 60Hz.

Hope someone is able to help me ....

You should only use 60Hz refresh rate on LCD displays. This is true for every LCD I've ever used, which includes a lot of them. Even if you find a way to drive the LCD at higher than 60Hz, you should definitely not do it. Note that LCD's don't "refresh" the way that CRT monitors do, so you don't need to drive them faster in order to see a clearer picture.

Also, you should use the native resolution of your monitor (1400x1050) or your display will seem blury.

Echo what Ron said. Running LCD at 75Hz doesn't seem to offer any advantage over 60Hz.

thanks for the speedy responses guys.

i suppose it looks like i have to get some education in me about LCD monitors and refresh rates... :)

i had previously used T20, T40, T42, T43 as my company laptops. My family has R40, R50, T42 as well. I am now thinking of the Z60m for my home desktop replacement use. but i digress...

if the refresh rates don't make a difference, how come i am being affected by my new T60? i have to admit, it is the first time i am using 1400x1050. the most i have used previously was 1280x1024. could it be that? but it's been almost a week now, i should have gotten used to it already right?....

Time for a pair of reading glasses!

As others have said, DON'T change the refresh rate!

You'll get more used to it in time, but seriously consider the glasses.
