Is R&R/Hidden partition used for Shock protection

I have made copies of the Rescue and Recovery Disk. Now I am trying to decide if I need the Partition to be saved. If it is only so I do not have to keep the Repair CD's I made that is one things, but if there are other services or products that need the partition it is another story.
Can someone please clarify.

I have created the disk's, but still do not get is the hidden partition is used for anythign besides repair. I can always carry disk and use the R&R from there. So if I have those is there any need for the actual partition? Does something like the shock protection use that hidden format in some way?

The disks are to restore your computer to the original factory condition, really nothing more. They will restore everything on the drive as when you purchased it, windows and the HPA.

So there is nothing more to it than the convienance of not having to have the repair disk with you. Though creating a ghost image makes more sences there too.
Why would anyone use this partition then for any other reason than if they are getting rid of the machine?

Because the partition is a safety net of sorts, I tested it out for a full windows recover and was pretty amazed at how fast it went. You can choose to make on-board backups of all your data via IBM, different from the MS WinXP backup thing, to that partition and they will be safe from all malware and other threats (barring something physically touching that portion of the HDD). It took around 15 minutes for me to let it do a full system restore the time I tested it out, pretty impressive for a little embedded OS that runs as a recovery and restore center amongst other things. Better than fooling around with a bunch of CDs plus the standard CD copies of Windows XP.

I agree, I want to keep it for such an emergency, but it has no other function besides the restore. Is that right?
