Well I (stupidly) ordered a Dell XPS instead of a Thinkpad, nd year later I regret my purchase. I recently sold my huge Dell XPS, and with the money I m buying a T60. Well the only thing that turns me off is that they keep the old legacy ports. @ USB slots isn't enough for me. Also no DVI, although I can get a PC Card DVI adaptor. Why does Lenovo still keep these ports on?

well, my t60 didn't have a seriell / parallel port!

You get the DVI through the docking station.

You're describing a T4x series ThinkPad. The T60's no longer have a parallel port, but they have 3 USB 2.0 ports (2 on the left and 1 on the right, if I'm not mistaken).

Unfortunately, still no DVI port built in, although as mentioned above, it can be found on a docking station.

The docking station is supposed to be a good solution for DVI but it seems that majority of adv mini dock owners have some issues with it...

Serial and parrallel (native, not emulated) is available with a plugin that goes into the cd-drive bay. I think it costs like 60-70 bucks.

The dock is definitely a good solution. Unlike things like CD drives, a DVI is almost exclusively needed only when stationary, making a dock connection ideal. Realize that USB is the most versatile of the current ports. 2.0 is as fast as Firewire, while maintaining compatability with everything. It is annoying that some people have problems with the dock, but ill bet that most are fixable.

Our organization has just refreshed all old T23's to T60's and the lack of a serial port has become a big problem for supporting legacy customers. I am glad to see that Lenovo has an adapter that will accomodate our needs for $79.

The bay adapter works fine but a cheaper solution is a USB to serial adapter. The iogear one works great, just load drivers on your default image

I need something that runs native, not emulated so the iogear will not get the job done.
