Hey guys, I've been lurking for a bit, and finally got my ibm thinkpad!

I initially ordered directly from lenovo- a 1953XXX model computer.

It was suppose to ship on 7/11/06, but it got pushed back to 8/4/06.

I decided to cancel it and just buy one locally. It's a little bit more expensive and not as great of a deal...but i figured, what the hell. I'll support the local economy instead of the big online retailers.

I ended up with a t60 model 2623d6u. Paid 1600+tax for it.

Specs include 512mb, 80gb hard drive, 14.1 screen. ati video card...and the rest of the basics.

The first thing I plan to do is to buy more RAM for this sucker. I'll probly add another 512mb,...as I thought I saw other users having problems with different sized memory sticks.

Second thing is to buy a 400gb external hard drive :)

Last is a cooler and or port replicator.

:D I love this thing! No dead pixels, no squeaky keyboard, only a little bit of light bleeding from the bottom of the screen. so little, that the toolbar covers it during use.

So, I have one quick question.

Where is the intake for the fan located? [/code]

Top left corner of the machine on the sides.

If you bought your 2623 du6 before 6/30 you qualify for a 200USD rebate from Lenovo -- you can get the rebate from the Lenovo site, I believe you have until the end of the month of July to mail it in.

I bought the same machine as you, online from Costcentral for 1400USD back in June, minus the 200USD when the check comes in, sweet deal...

First thing I did was install 1GB of add'l RAM -- Transcend for 69USD from Newegg.com. Works fine.

Others with same machine have bought 100GB HDD (7200RPM)Hitachi from Newegg too for around 150USD -- haven't done it yet, for now I am happy with the 80GB even at 5400RPM, but will upgrade in due time.

I have some light bleed too, some have reported that a BIOS upgrade to 1.07 has fixed the problem -- I am still under 1.05. The 1.07 may cause some other problems, so I am living with the light bleed.

I removed Picasa, Symantec/Norton, Google Taskbar, Diskeeper Lite, but kept Intevideo and Interwin DVD.

I have installed MS Office XP, Quark 6, Frame Maker 7, and Trados 7.

I find the Intel 3945 Wifi card somewhat on the weak side. Others here have swapped it for the IBM Atheros card (about 50USD from Lenovo) and say they get a much better connection. I now connect with ThinkVintage AC and not Windows and get a somewhat better connection, but still weaker than my external SMC card in my other lappy. So I may eventually splurge and get the Atheros (SN # 40Y7026). Some have re-install the Intel driver for the 3945 and calim they no longer have connection issues -- I'll try that soon.

I got a Logitech Bluetooth mouse (V270) and a USB Kesington keyboard -- happy with both, especially the mouse. Got a PowerSleeve Booq.

Good luck with your TP !

I did notice how weak the signal strength was. My dell axim x51v pocket pc picks up more signals.

You got quite the deal!...I feel ripped off now, I missed the rebate, because I was waiting for the other order from lenovo, and ordered this one on 7/12/06.

Nice picture Tiger !

I am still using the Intel 3945 integrated Wifi card that came with it, the connection is somewhat unpredictable, sometimes it is pretty crappy at other times just fine. Not sure why, my other lappy which is right next to my TP 60 and has an external SMC Wifi card has stronger signal and always constant (no ups and down).

Are you happy so far with your machine? Any issues?
What have you installed and removed since it came out of the box?
