With respect from the originator of this thread, i found out how to edit the serial number in the BIOS.

Go to IBM/Lenovo website and select upgrad BIOS.

Manually upgarde the BIOS by clicking on the options manually. DO NOT use automated machine detection.

During the BIOS upgrade, there are 2 options: edit BIOS or upgrade

Edit BIOS.

Copy serial number from sticker at the bottom of thinkpad and add it into the BIOS setting.

After editing, choose enter/ok.

Restart computer and check BIOS setting again. Should be there.

:-)

Done... (The above method is contributed by IBM Singapore tech support)

That is the model number, not the serial number. That was already discussed in a thread in the T4X Series Forum not too long ago; See

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... bios+flash

Also take note that changing or otherwise altering the serial number requires that the operator be the legal owner and have a valid reason for it. No one here should help someone change a serial number without proof-of-ownership or other equivalent documentation; same goes for requests for serial numbers to help without a valid and clear purpose. There was a reason that the diskette(s) were moved to IBM/Lenovo internal-use-only after awhile; serial numbers of stolen Thinkpads, for example, could be changed and little could be done to track them.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.
