T60: battery life i950 vs Radeon

#1 Post by tixop » Wed Jul 19, 2006 11:01 am

I'm a happy owner of a good T42 [2373-3VU] and have recently decided to replace it with a T60 / T60p thanks mostly to the hype surrounding Core Duo, the new chipset etc.

Reading on the 'net I did notice that the models with integrated graphics seem to have (much?) longer battery life than the ones with discrete graphics. This is to be expected but I wonder is it "worth" the downgrade?

My current T42 has a Radeon 9600 and I'm not exactly happy with it's battery life. I don't need graphics performance on the road as I'm using other two desktops and a Dell D620 but TP is my machine of choice when travelling.

Does anybody have any "touchable" evidence on this?

I have heard the same. I cannot imagine getting MUCH more battery life out of a T60 with integrated 950 - maybe 15 minutes.

The way the radeon works is that it clocks down it does not need the power. With my 9 cell I get 5 hours out of it.

I would be interested in hearing from someone with i950.

Is the max resolution on the i950 1024 x 768? That would keep me from getting it right there. I love my 1400 x 1050.
