T60p Problem running 1680x1050 to external through VGA

When I run my 20.1" View sonic external monitor at its natural resolution (1680X1050) it seems to have lines around my icons that flicker, or certain graphics have a flicker/waves going through them. The screen its self does not flicker just certain parts. When I change it to the laptops natural this effect goes away. I am plugged directly from the VGA on the laptop, any help on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Viewsonic lists the optimum rez for a 20.1 as 1600x1200.
Is this a widescreen Viewsonic? 1680x1050 is not a rez to be used with a standard aspect ratio display.

Sorry yes it is the wide screen. If you load up anything other than 1680x1050 it pops up telling you the natural.

Also the resolution works perfect on my desktop, so it has to be a problem on the laptop side not the monitor.

I've never been impressed with the analog VGA on Thinkpads, especially at resolutions beyond 1024x768. I once returned a T41 because it was so bad.
You would be better off buying a dock and use DVI.

Ya I run DVI usually but my dock is on back order. Thanks any how!
