i've been following the extremelly long threads addressing the lenovo 1gb + extra 1gb issues, but, i will be completely swapping out the lenovo ram for 2 1gb sticks. i have yet to find any solid information about which brand is sure to work in the t60. i am sure i don't want to go with crucial because i don't want to spend that kind of money.

The reviews on newegg haven't been that helpful because they mostly seem to be from Mac owners. The brands have been considering are Transcend, Gigaram, G.skill, and Patriot. I've also heard about the OCZ ram at outpost.com, but i'm not sure about the stock they have left. I can find the same ram at monarch computers at a reasonable price.

The most important thing to me i guess is that i get some good quality ram that works in the T60. Well, that and ram that isn't too expensive. I want to know the experiences that people have had when they swap in 2 1gb sticks of the same brand.

The OCZ ram is fine, the problem is the pairing. If you buy two identical sticks from any vendor, then theoretically, they should work well.

well yes theoretically i suppose, does anybody have any negative experiences when they have done this?

Check out the OCZ PC2-5400 1GB RAM at monarchcomputer.com. Only around $77/stick. I've had 2 installed in my T60 for the last several weeks now and they work flawlessly.

i understand that monarch computer has a rebate for 8 dollars, i'm assuming that you can only get a rebate on one stick. does anybody have good things to say about any other brand? i would prefer to go through newegg since they're closer and extremelly reliable.

You assumed wrong. The rebate form says "one rebate per item", not "one rebate per order".

I've ordered numerous things from Monarch and never had a problem with them. Customer service is prompt and they ship quickly via FedEx.

i just recieved my t60 and installed 2 1gb sticks of OCZ ram from Fry's. It was 74.99/stick+tax. There is a 10 dollar mail in rebate but you can only submit one per household. I haven't had a problem yet.

Samsung is the original 1GB ram on my T60 and I bought additional 1GB RAM Kingston brand and it works fine. I bought it for $160.
No lock ups.

I bought some 2x1gb GSkill sticks from newegg for like $75-80. Very easy install and so far so good, latest BIOS 1.07, no lockups.

Mixing RAMs of the smae spec i.e. PC5300 for SODIMMs is generally fine. However one thing to note that for a higher level of compatibility, the CAS timings should be matched.

As long as you are purchasing the pair of RAMs from the same batch, it should be fine.

Known RAMs that work well are from Kingston, Crucial and Samsung.

Kingston and Crucial should be better and have the lifetime warranty program.
