I'm trying to decide which of these two laptops I should buy, and am having trouble finding the differences.

For one thing, the T60ps seem to include the 256mb V5200 card, while the T60 can have teh X1400. Also, The T60p's processor is the T2500, while the T60 has the T2400 or T2600.

Now heres my confusion. Under the specs, it states that the T60 can be upgraded for up to 2GB of RAM, while the T60p can be upgraded up to 4. Why? Is the casing different in any way? Does the T60p have more slots?

The T60p also seems to be the only way to upgrade to a flexview screen. Does this really boast that much of a difference when compared to a 14.1" SXGA+?

Lastly, are there any other major differences I've overlooked? Thanks!

There are more differences than just those.

Both systems can accomodate 4GB; Windows XP can only use 3GB maximum with a certain boot switch. The chassis on both are the same and they don't limit what memory you can add. Also, the 15" T60 series have the FlexView screens, it isn't just the T60p.

Did you take a look through the tabook.pdf?

When I try to customize a T60, the only 15" screen available is an XGA, which, I thought, was not a flexview screen. The only way I was able to configure a flexview was on a T60p.

Speaking of which....I figure I might be grinding away at a computer for hours at a time, and thought that the 15" UXGA Flexview screen might do me a little better. Is this true, or would the 14.1" SXGA+ be the same?

Mmmm, have a look through the tabook.pdf as I am sure there are 15" FlexView UXGAs. As for difference? Well, I would say SXGA+ is a minimum; if you are going to get a 15", might as well go for the UXGA if you feel like it. No point to carry around a slightly heavier 15" T60 and just have an SXGA+ on it when you could have a UXGA. A big reason that you might want to get SXGA+ on a 15" is that it makes the fonts too small on a 14.1" with SXGA+; yet I don't think you are going to have that problem.

From what I have used, a 14.1" SXGA+ is the ideal resolution for work and just about anything else I can think up of *and* it is very mobile. If you are going to be moving it to and from class and/or research labs, journal labs, meetings, etc....then you might want to think about a 14.1" SXGA or just go with the 15" UXGA to get the most out of it.
