Please check in and let us know how much memory you are using and why?

2 GB RAM...

Why?

Emm... increase boot up speed.

I have a T41, but T30 plus, X, R machines of recent vintage all came with Windows XP. XP works well on 512 Mb and except for specific applications beyond Office, Email and Internet doesn't really require more.

My T41 has 768 Mb (as does my IBM Desktop) and I have VMware running. The extra memory allows for an additional machine (Windows or Linux) running simultaneously with my host XP machine.

So far as I can see, one really doesn't need gobs of memory just to run Windows. My paging file used to stay at 256Mb, and has grown to 512Mb because I have forced an additional machine (3 simultaneous machines), but normally with just the host, I usually have at least 256 Mb of free ram (from 768 max).

I am running wins XP and wins server 2003 (for my schoolwork) and linux all in 1 TP.

EDIT: then i always like to open many browsers and start surfing web sites, forums and also do my school work at once... Opened 7 browsers usually and do my work... 4 browsers for forums, 2 for news websites and 1 for microsoft word...

^If my TP is running wins XP only, i will NOT upgrade it to 2GB. Waste of $$ only... I prefer 1GB will do... <-- and this is already a lot for running wins XP ONLY!!!

1.5 G ... why? because I could afford it ... because I like to do a lot of different things at once like watching news, word, spreadsheets, Adobe 7, and running FTP client ... and because I have very little patience with MS having worked with Linux for a few years

got 2 GB because...

1. you cannot ever have enough ram
2. I use 3d studio max which cannot have enough ram
3. better get it now than later. less hassle getting it installed, etc.
4. I had 2 gigs ever since win2k and it does make a difference, especially when you have a 3d app, photoshop and what not open at the same time

I use VMware to run multiple virtual machines at one time. It allows me to setup a test lab of servers without needed to hunt down five or more computers to test how a cluster configuration would work or something like that. I also get to see all the "screens" at the same time - thats better than a KVM even that only allows me to switch back and forth. I allocate 256 to each computer, allowing me to run about 5 at a time right now and still have enough left over for surfing the net or something while they are running.

2gb in my personal t60p, and 1gb (2x512MB) In my husbands thinkpad T60. The extra 512mb in my hubby's T60 came free on a promo deal for my T60p. My hubby mostly uses his thinkpad for web browsing and some of his school stuff with rarely a simple game (5th grade teacher) so he doesn't need as much as I do (software engineer that likes to play Oblivion). Most of the Thinkpads I have given away to family ( 3 in the T20 family and one 600x have 384mb ram and run windows xp without problems).

I got 2 X 1GB RAM, so I run games while idle at work.

1.5g, like mentioned before, because I can afford it and also trying to "future proof" my laptop. Plan on buying a retail version of Vista whenever it comes out so the extra ram will help.

2GB RAM - Becasue I hate swap files and tweaked XP to almost not swap at all. Runs MUCH faster!

2Gb 667Mhz Ram here. Because its my desktop replacement, so I do a lot of resource intensive applications like AutoCAD, Photoshop and Maya.

2GB for me and 1.5GB for my wife.

1GB is actually ok but there's a noticeable performance improvement on 1.5GB and more on 2GB even for the simplest applications.

it feels good to know that your laptop is going to have enough ram to handle most anything you can throw at it. i also didn't want to have to buy ram later if i needed it, even though it's incredibly easy to replace the modules. It didn't cost that much considering i'm planning on using it for 4 years.

EDIT: i'm running 2 x 1gb OCZ

I'm still on the original 1 gig that came with the laptop. My intent was to max out the memory to 4 gig but then discovered that the price was too high and also the fourth 1 gig was useless for now. So then I decided to wait until the price drops to where it would be worth while to add a 2 gig stick for now and 2 gig later. Not sure how long I'll have to wait. May just lower my sights and add a one gig stick if the 2 gig price doesn't drop soon.
Also, to add to my confusion is the defective stick that was shipped with many of these T60. I haven't checked but assume that I have one. Seems like Lenovo should be recalling them.

In the mean time, I am getting along fine with my original 1 gig. It is quite an improvement over the maxed out half gig that I was running on the old Dell.

1 GB. Because I prefer 3GB.
