Windows 2003 server on a T60 ?

For fun today, I tried this and actually it works rather nicely on the T60...most of all of the drivers from IBM (XP) worked just fine.

However, I noticed 1 thing...

Eventhough I installed the ACPI power driver and the Thinkpad power manager....I cannot seem to control or throttle the CPU speeds.

The machine always reports full speed no matter what I set the manager at....and that means my run time (with the xtra battery) goes from 7hrs down to 5hrs.

Anyone have any advice on this? Speed step is supposed to be part of W2003 SP1....my display does dim...but the CPU stays at full speed.

When I had XP SP2 on here, it worked as expected.

Have you checked the power settings in windows control panel? In W2K3 Server the default setting is "Always on" which means that the CPU runs in full speed mode.

Have you tried using Bluetooth in Windows Server 2003? I'd love to use 2003 for work, but I don't want to give up my mouse.

How is the power management and CPU throttling doing on battery? :)

I am pretty sure that is going to help alot of people that need Windows 2003 on their Thinkpads and are wondering if they can do so without giving up nice, mobility-enhancing features. Good job. :D

it's very tempting...i'll try when i figure out why slipstreaming server 2003 sp1 doesn't work.

i also have another quick question, i just updated my computer using "system update", if i was to restore my computer to factory settings will my newly installed update be included or i have to run "system update" again.

Did you check hardware acceleration on the video driver tab and enabled directx?

Have a look at the msfn w2k3 server to workstation guide over at their site: http://www.msfn.org/win2k3/

You have to run System Update again. If you restore Factory Contents from Rescue and Recovery you get your ThinkPad, software-wise as it came from the factory.

System apdate will install but the problem is that while searching for new updates it will recognize your operating system as windows server 2003 and you won't get updates because windows 2003 updates and drivers are not supported by thinkvantage system update.
