anyone experiencing the same temp symptom ?, with Everest my CPU Temp before (1.07) was most of the time 44 at home and 40 at work (more A/C), now at home I have most of the time 38, tomorrow I'll check in the office, thanks

Errr, why?

If the system runs *colder* to begin with, by various additional power management techniques, the fan wouldn't need to spool up as much.

I suspect that this changes the internal behaviour and characteristics of the system itself rather than ramping up the fan to get everything that much cooler.

My fan runs on 3500rpm, thats very high!!!

Ok at the beginning from the cold system, the fan is off, and the temperature is very well...then it goes higher and higher (i mean the fan speed) up to 3500rpm

Well as far as I can see, IBM changed the Fan behaviour on fan level 1 to go down to 2600RPM plus they raised the level on which the fan would kick in on high GPU temperatures. Right now I am running at a constant 66 degrees GPU when idleing. Before it was around 62 but the fan level was also a bit higher. This saves one from using fancontrol to keep the fan manually at a low level. Thanks IBM.

Actually the fan doesn't seem to kick in at all now until the GPU reaches a temperature of 71 degrees after bootup. After that it starts with around 2900RPM.
Also the fan behaviour does not seem to change when unplugging AC now. Before it was louder on Battery and silent when on AC.

After upgrading BIOS 1.06 to 1.09a I observe the following improvements:

• Max. temp. is GPU down to 69 deg. (was 78 deg.).
  Fan speed down at 2880 rpm (was 3270 rpm). Subjectively not really much quieter, but before/after comparison not possible.
  Readings constant for all power schemes and on AC or battery. That's good news.

(Readings by TP fan control which might not be accurate for T60.)

Upgraded to 1.09 with no real change for me except for lower fan speed.

I had the same temps with 1.06 but higher fan speed, around 3200 RPM

I'm not noticing any difference whatsoever.

Fan is still spinning at around 3400rpm. It also occasionally speeds up to over 5400rpm but goes back down to 3400rpm (this is when idling). I'm not really complaining about the fan speed, as even when its at 5400rpm, I can't really hear it over all the ambient noise, except when I stick my ear to the fan grill. I'm a bit worried about the high GPU temperatures.

Yesterday I posted improved readings for GPU temp. and fan speed after installing BIOS 1.09a.

Today I must report that the fan is back up from 2880 rpm to 3500 rpm and consequently as noisy as ever - disturbing in a quiet room.

I had the impression that IBM/Lenovo had recognised and addressed the problem, but this is not good enough. I do not understand why the fan must run at constant high speed just to blast out cold air. The only explanation that occurs to me cannot be expressed here for fear of censure by moderators.

I'd like to hear that my compatriot...

Try it. No censure here about that stuff...as long as it *is* sane, tasteful, and not vulgar (which I don't think it is).

I originally installed 1.09a when I had my 5400rpm, 80 gb drive and was happy with the difference it made with the fan control. I've since upgraded the hard drive to a 7200 rpm, 100gig drive (the one I actually ordered) and the fan noise is back even though temperatures throughout the system have not increased. I reverted to 1.07 bios and then went back to 1.09a but still no difference and it's back to using TPfancontrol for me.

Edit: On further review, it seems I can only get the bios to correctly control the fan when the power scheme is set to "Power Source Optimized"

1.09a has slightly increased my fan speed to the point where I can now hear it. I never used to be able to hear it at all.
