Removing the Windows Sticker
Removing the Windows Sticker
Hi, sorry if the question sounds stupid,
but is there any way to remove the windows sticker without damaging the palm rest? (the reason I ask is because a portion of the sticker got scratch out)
Thanks in advance.

Re: Removing the Windows Sticker
There are quite a few threads about removing stickers in this forum. Do a search and you will find it.ronli_84 wrote:Hi, sorry if the question sounds stupid,

I will just stick 1 fingernail into the sticker and pull it off like that. Your fingernail will not damage the palm rest at all.

Err, care to elaborate?
You can use that to warm the adhesive and then lift it off with your fingernail, much like what NS said.
You can then bounce the sticker with quick, rapid taps over the adhesive that is still stuck to the Thinkpad. After that wipe with some 70% Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol then, if you want and I am not joking as I have done this myself and it worked, rub it with some olive oil to lubricate any "gumballs" of adhesive that have rolled up and become buggers and get them off as well as to put down a layer that prevents dust from settling and sticking on the adhesive residue which would make the area feel "gritty."

I strongly recommend that you remove all stickers (except the ThinkPad sticker in its recess) from the palmrest immediately upon receipt of the system. The stickers will eventually wear out, and when you finally do remove them they will reveal fresh, un-worn palmrest-plastic underneath. The result will be "sticker shadows" that can never be eliminated. Believe me, I bought a new palmrest for a used T41 because of this cosmetic annoyance (well, OK, it was also because I didn't want a touchpad, but still...).

I opened my fairly new thinkpad today just to see that the Windows sticker was half worn off. I stuck my fingernail under one edge and pulled the whole sticker off, not problems. A little bit of adhesive was left, and I simply rubbed that til it came off. None of this "hairdryer" or goo gone stuff for the windows sticker, maybe the others would need them, but the Windows sticker practically pulls itself off.

that happened to me too. i just peeled it off with my finger nails, then rubbed off whatever adhesive that remained.ronli_84 wrote:(the reason I ask is because a portion of the sticker got scratch out)

Another thread about stickers removal, the TP owner is indeed a perfectionist...
Nail worked fine with me, actually there was no redidue whatsover, maybe it is because it is so hot around here so glue must have been nice and soft. Rather than a hair dryer, I would just remove the sticker after having used the TP over one hour, the heat generated by the TP should be just enough to soften the glue somewhat.

I doubt that it would void your warranty, plus you can always claim that they just fell off by themselves. It does happen.dontaskme316 wrote:does removing any of the stickers on the palmrest (core duo, ati, windows) violate any part of the warranty from Lenovo? For some reason i feel like i read this somewhere but i can't confirm this. The fear of losing my warranty is the only thing keeping me from debadging my T60

No problem the warranty will still be in effect. Here's an example. I dislike those stickers so much, that I take them off the moment I unpack the computer. One new ThinkPad I received was DOA out of the box, would not even boot up. I called in, they issued a return authorization and sent me a new ThinkPad. Not a single question about the stickers missing on the one I returned.dontaskme316 wrote:does removing any of the stickers on the palmrest (core duo, ati, windows) violate any part of the warranty from Lenovo? So "debadge" that baby and enjoy...
