What is faster Core Duo + Win XP or Core Solo + Win 2000 ?

#1 Post by brosen » Wed Aug 02, 2006 4:05 pm

I have been using Core Duo with Windows XP for about a month, and yesterday, I started using Core Solo with Windows 2000, and it seems to be much more responsive and faster, it is possible ?, how much power difference is the Core Duo compare with the Core Solo ?. thanks

I beleive the difference that you observed is due to the low resource requirements of windows 2000

Maybe, what do you mean by "resource", if it is memory, HD, etc. I have plenty,

What are the clock difference between Core Duo and Solo?

Also XP has a lot more eye candies than WIn2000 so this could be the issue.

Other considerations are number of programs running in the background.

I use WIn XP with classic view, it will run faster than default setting.

Why not use the best of both worlds, ie. Core Duo and Win2000? Just dump the useless (on Core platform) Intel SpeedStep applet and use NHC instead.

I did it, and I use it for about a week, nonetheless I think NHC does not do the job properly, the CPU runs much hotter, 45, compared to XP at 39, also I think something weird is going on with 2000 and Core Duo, the machine felt slow, have you tried it ?, thanks, we are both in the same path, but I have the feeling we still do not have the right tool, so I keep using XP

I'm not using my X60s in production yet (still in the process of installing all the stuff I need). Although I've been running it at half-speed (830 MHz) with NHC, I also have the feeling it's running pretty hot, but I can't really make comparisons with XP. Based on discussions with the author of NHC, I have the impression W2K shouldn't be a problem with Core Duo. Are you using the latest (Aug-1) version of NHC? I think we should report all quirks we observe with W2K & NHC, the author seems responsive and dedicated to making things work (I also purchased the Pro version of NHC).

I also purchased the PRO version, nonetheless my communications feedback with the author has been very bad, I've sent some emails, but the responses get after 1 or 2 weeks. Yes I am using the latest version from Aug, 1st.
