Re: The CPU is user replaceble ?
Youll have to wait for a BIOS update that adds Merom support, but after that, it shouldnt be that hard. The detailed instructions are on page 78 of the Hardware Maintenance Manual. You can find that here.brosen wrote:If yes, where are the instructions how to replace it ?, I am thinking to change my 2.16Ghz Yonah CPU for a 2.33Ghz Meron CPU, thanks

@brosen
Just right now, it is NOT possible to exchange the cpu´s!
I tried it with the actual Bios Version for the T60/p (1.11), and it
was not successful. The Post display doesnot display anything.
So I had to bring it back to the delivery state...
I am hope that Lenovo will make a Bios Release, with which we can
do the job

I tried the T7400 Core 2 CPU with 2,16 MHz.
I bought this from eBay from a seller from GB.
The Core 2 Duo CPU is an Engineering Sample, but
runs quite OK on an Desktop Mainboard.
I thought that I could simply exchange that with the
shipping cpu. I take the replace and after booting
the system with the core 2 cpu the screen keeps still
beeing black.
So I am still waiting for the next bios release which
supports the core 2...
P.S. the costs of the cpu were 340 EURO´s

I also will replace my CPU with the T7600 in my T60p. Alright, so it voids the warranty. Just keep your original CPU, and if you really need warranty support, temporarily put the old one in, or am I missing something here?

can you guide us along on how you plan on replacing the cpu? i want to do the same. ThanksCrunch wrote:I also will replace my CPU with the T7600 in my T60p. Alright, so it voids the warranty. Please search the forum you would find many topics like the following:eyecon82 wrote:can you guide us along on how you plan on replacing the cpu? i want to do the same. Thanks
T60 Core Duo --> Core 2 Duo.

Yep, searched more on that topic and apparently the best CPU I can in my T60p is T7600, which I believe is already discontinued. So, it's a big problem to actually find one anywhere except eBay.
The new ones (T7500, T7700) already on socket P and use 800MHz bus. T60p has socket M (mPGA) and uses 667MHz bus. Also, it's important to have the latest BIOS and to be sure that motherboard is revision 3.

Silcener: That is correct. The T7600 is the highest one that will fit into the T60 series. (667MHz bus speed)
eyecon82: Sure. It'll have to wait until I get back home, which will be in the final week of December. It is already enjoying the sunshine in Los Angeles, while I'm running around in snow and sleet in Bavaria with temps around the freezing mark. There are MANY guides as to how to do that all over this forum, as well as other forums, or you can google it, or search on Lenovo's site.
I don't even know why I'm doing it. The T2600 is so fast, it would hold multiple OS's, which I'm interested in doing (Virtual PC
). I am only getting the T7600 for my possible exploration into the world of 64-bit.

a Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 Merom 2.4GHz 4M shared L2 for $335
The T7700 is 800 MHz FSB. My system (T60p) is limited to 667 MHz, so the T7600 is the maximum upgrade I could consider. Given that I have a T7400 right now, the very slight difference in performance would hardly be worth it...eyecon82 wrote:forget about that price...take a look at this
