T60p with Cingular HSPDA

I am thinking about buying a T60p 2007-8EU which includes the Cingular HSDPA card. Does anyone know if this card is locked to Cingular or will it be usable with other HSDPA services that are coming (like T-Mobile)?

Any knowledgeable feedack would be appreciated.

Lenovo just released the new firmware for Vodafone support.

I am 100% sure that it is locked to Cingular.

Vodafone is for the Europe card - the firmware doesn't open it up to other networks. In Europe Lenovo will give you an unlock code - i'm pretty sure it should be the same in the US

Why don't they just sell some unlocked HSDPA wireless mPCIe card which does pick up SIM from different network operators worldwide?

Money! they will get paid to lock it to an operator when a user signs up for the service. But as I said, Lenovo should unlock it if you ask

Forget it! UMTS/HSDPA in Europe and Asia operates on a different frequency then Cingulars. The US card will not work in europe until it is 2100Mhz.

Some info.
Sierra MC8765 and MC8775/MC8775V modules will work at 2100Mhz.

However, Lenovo sells only MC8755 currently.

If one were to buy a T60 today with the Cingular HSDPA support using the Sierrra MC8755 module, could you swap the MC8755 for a MC8775 to add 2100MHz service and eliminate any lock to Cingular in the Lenovo-supplied firmware?

I will do that if I can confirm it will probably work.

The machine will fail to boot unless the card has the proper USB discriptor which is unique to Lenovo branded cards. !@#$%

My Cingular GSM card (PCMCIA) worked just fine in Cancun 12 months ago. I would expect the newer card to work as well.
