T60p 2623-D8U TPM 1.2 - VISTA BitLocker

#1 Post by ssimon » Thu Aug 10, 2006 12:03 am

OK, while experimenting with Vista Beta 2 (5384) I managed to install the Atmel TPM chip drivers using the ones from the Lenovo site HERE

I then tried to run "tpm.msc" to see if Vista liked the TPM chip and will allow me to play with BitLocker (hardware encryption of data on HD), but it did not work as it said the TPM chip was not recognized.

I'd love to know for sure is the TPM in the T60p (2623-D8U) conforms with the TPM v1.1b or v1.2 which is what is needed by BitLocker in Vista?

I found 2 pieces of info HERE and HERE, one saying that there is a BIOS update that will make this work (I am already running v1.09) and the other is a WiKi that sais the T60 & T60p conform to v1.1b

Does anypone have any concrete info?

Hmmm.. I answer my questions yet again :-)

Looking closely at the August 2006 TabBook from HERE it seems that the entire 2623 series (both T60's and T60p models) support TCG v1.2

This must mean the Atmel TPM drivers from XP are not good enough so that Vista Beta 2 recognizes the chip properly. A Vista specific driver should then fix this.

At least there is no need to worry about the 2623 hardware (as well as others) not being supported!
