T60 recovery media disk #1: DVD OK?

Hi all,

I ran the recovery media creation utility on my wife's new T60. I meant to give it a CDR for the startup disk, but accidentally fed it a DVD-R (note: I was using a DVD recorder for creation, rather than the CD recorder the computer arrived with).

It seemed to work just fine, though it only used a small part of the space on the DVD.

Do I have anything to worry about? I don't think it will let me burn another copy...

Should be nothing to worry about - the first disk will always be just the bootable stuff so only ever uses up the content of a CD which is why I generally use a CDR for the first and a DVDR for the second but it should still boot fine, check it out - boot from the DVD and if you get to Rescue and Recovery then it is working.

You sure it wont let you burn another copy of that. Granted, the software on mine is messed up (it will never let me burn the actual recovery disc), but I have burnt many copies of the first disc. It only contains the R&R software, not the actual OS backup.

failed for me

Hi,
I put in a dvd and it reported that it could not find the data in the recovery partition. The dvd also had to be junked. Now I can't retry writing the recovery media.

Is there anything i can do ? I plan to call up lenovo, but if there was a quicker resolution, I would prefer that.

Thats a very odd message - don't think it would be a result of it being a DVD to be honest.

If the system is recovered (from the disk 2 disk partition) then it would allow you to burn another copy of the recovery disks, alternatively create a backup disk set, the first disk of which will be the same as the recovery set.

I don't have a T60, so perhaps your choices are different, but IIRC, in ThinkVantage Create Recovery Media there is a choice to Create Rescue Media. AFAIK, this is the same thing as on disk 1 of the Product Recovery Discs. You can burn as many copies of the Recovery Media CD as you like.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. First I'll test the DVD-based one I made, and if that doesn't work, I'll try making another rescue media disk.

Hi,
Due to paranoia I restored my t60 to factory state and took a copy of the recovery media. It went thru 7 cds and reported success. However, when I tried to convert these cd's to iso's (on my linux desktop using xfburn (log provided below). I also tried nero and burnatonce (windows gui interface to mkisofs). Both reported the same error. (1 sector cannot be read blah blah).

Does this mean the disks are bad ? Do I have to go thru another round of burning ?

This is a bit off topic but I notice that when you use a DVD- disk during recovery CD making process, my T60s reads it as a normal CDR.

I've tried it on two T60's and was puzzled why the computer asks for more disks. On my 3rd T60, I used a DVD+ disk and the computer finally recognized it as a DVD.
