Thinkpad T60 (2007-F4G UT0F4UK) - UK model / Windows XP
Hi
Does anyone know how to stop the Browser Back button from working!
It's [censored] irritating because it's all too easy when entering
text on a web screen to hit the Browser Back instead of the
CURSOR LEFT button which is immediately below it!!
And on many websites this means that you lose all the text
that you had just been putting in.
With thanks

P.S.
In an ideal world I would like to have the browser back key work
but ONLY when I hold down say the Shift or Control key !

'sugo' suggested something called KeyTweak. Don't know anything about it, but may be worth a try.

The web keys running down the left side of my a31p keyboard aren't useful because they point to IE functions I never use. Is there a way to remap them? The IBM web navigation keys agent does let you assign the mailer and web keys but doesn't let you change the other four.
Any way to change this in the registry or something?

KeyTweak works great here. No non-sense running in the background.)
Hope it works.

I would think the best way would be open Software Installer and uninstall the ThinkPad web navigation keys agent.

Not sure why anyone hasn't mentioned this, but here's how to disable the browser keys on a Canadian T60 (2007-62U):
1. Start -> programs -> ThinkVantage -> Keyboard Customiser Utility
2. Open the tab 'Key sensitivity'
3. uncheck the 'enable browser keys' checkbox.
-or-
you can increase the delay on which the keys must be pressed before the action is done, just adjust the sensitivity slider.
Browser button to ONLY work or Shift(or Control or Fn keys)?

Okay I've changed the sensititivity, which MIGHT do the trick, I suppose...
But what I REALLY want is to be able to do Shift (or Control or Fn) + the Browser Back button in order to get INSTANT browser back functionality.
Maybe just not possible?

If you're using Opera, you can easily change your keyboard shortcuts to whatever you want. If you're using something else, YMMV.
No I use Firefox and msIE v6 (where I have to!)
