I know you guys have probably seen the leaks around the net in the past couple weeks, but this is all detailed info straight from the horse's mouth:

I've had my T60p working fine under Linux for a while now, with one notable, annoying exception.

The WWAN device does not work under linux unless I boot to windows, run the VZAccess Manager, then reboot to Linux and THEN try to use it. THEN it works, at least for a while.

Thats what I want from Lenovo, not their custom software so much, but a proper driver from the WWAN card so it works every time. Personally I think it all comes down to the AT string - since I can communicate with the device using minicom or pppd just fine, however I guess the init string used under windows and under Linux are different, and it doesn't like the one Linux uses.

That, or the Linux driver is too simplistic and the WWAN device needs a proper Linux driver.

I've used the codeweaver kit to run some of the win32 only drivers, in addition to a few Win32 things (like Office). Worth giving it a try for your stuff.

Maybe Not?

Now it looks like maybe SUSE isn't loaded at all...

http://www.linuxplanet.com/linuxplanet/newss/6298/1/

"The new "Linux-enabled" Lenovo laptop launched this week at LinuxWorld will not actually come "pre-loaded" with Novell SUSE Linux, a high-ranking Lenovo official said today, contradicting some industry reports stating otherwise."

If you read my news release, that was specified. Most news outlets got it wrong, Lenovo told me as much

D'oh!

It's good though that they'll have the Linux drivers available to the public... :)

SuSE is probably what they are going to use for now from the POV of IBM/Lenovo. Later on, maybe they will decide to get into stuff like Ubuntu and Gentoo (they have already been given several "certifications" by IBM so I can't imagine that being too far off)...then again, IBM did this as well as far as it came to Novell SuSE support on Thinkpads; but, of course, people wanted something to complain about when IBM/Lenovo came about and some chose to whine about, ahem, "FUTAR LINUX SUPPORT?!" with more than one thread being made in error about Lenovo dropping support for Linux even when Lenovo stated that was clearly not the case. Several media outlets got it wrong too, the example of them shipping a Linux Thinkpad *without Linux* (somebody on the media end needs some more lessons in critical thought ). :)

She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.
