Two more easy questions
Two more easy questions
[1] When you make the rescue and recovery disks, does it only back up the information from the hidden partition (e.g. that needed to restore to factory defaults) or does it back up the system drive (e.g. C:) as well?
[2] I think I saw on here that you can burn a Windows XP retail CD using one of the IBM apps, but I can't find the thread and I don't know what 99% of the IBM executables do. Is that true? If so, how?
Thanks a lot.

Awesome. That's what I wanted to hear.Kyocera wrote:When you burn the R&R cd's they return to factory condition, if you press f11 after shutting down and restarting your machine you can enter the r&r environment and read all the options you have.
Thanks for all your replies. You've been a big help.

I saw something that lead me to believe that on these forums, but I didn't bookmark it (stupid), and now I can't find it again.Kyocera wrote:You know now that I think about it you may be able to use the i/386 folder to create a bootable windows cd from your system, I remember reading something about that either here or in cyberspace.

Someone will chime in i'm sure. Sometimes the search function is problematic.
Just from my experience i've clean istalled a retail version of XP on my machines and used the ibm based install, I have gone back to the ibm because it seems like everything I thought I would never need or ever use, i got into situations where (sure enough) i needed it. I now delete what i definately don't want and keep everything just in case. But it was through my own trial and error that I came to this conclusion, and it is by no means all inclusive of everyones needs or desires.

I usually don't like uninstalling things (I'd rather they were never there in the first place) because there is always... debris left behind (be it registry entries, icons, etc.).Kyocera wrote:Someone will chime in i'm sure. Sometimes the search function is problematic.

Also, much of the installed software doesn't show up in Add/Remove (Acrobat Reader, Google Picasa, etc.). Are they burried within one or more of the many many IBM apps?

What is in the 1.43GB R&R download that Software Updater is prompting me to retrieve. I've downlaoded and installed everything else, but this one seems a bit extreme.
Is there a better option than R&R for a backup restore solution? What the favorite here?
