touchpad/trackpoint lockup

Has anyone else had this problem?
While I am using the computer, my touchpad and trackpoint lockup entirely, I can't move the pointer cursor at all, but keyboard functions still work.
Then when I use ctrl-alt-delete, the cursor moves (both touchpoint and trackpoint will move) when viewing the main box where you can select the different options (e.g. task manager, lock computer, shutdown, change password), but as soon as I select something, such as the task manager, the trackpoint and touchpad stop working again.
I have to reboot the system entirely in order to get the cursor working again in normal mode.
Arggh.... Any help would be appreciated.
