I just called for them and was told I could not place an order until March 1.
On the site linked above with the info, it does mention that they're not available until then. I'll just call back at the end of the week. i don't feel like fighting it.

While he was on the phone with me I also noticed that, but didn't say anything to him about it. According to him I should have them by the end of the week, so I guess I'll see...I would just give a call back and see if you can get someone else to put the order in...
Are these field kits available at no charge?

I had been doing the static discharge thing for several weeks and have had no shutdowns until yesterday. I followed the exact same discharge procedure I had been doing, and I was rewarded with a shutdown.
Seriously, this is bush league stuff I would have expected from Dell or HP. If this is any indication of the future of the Thinkpad, I might as well save some money next time and get a Dell.

Has anyone tried the rubber grommet solution from Lenovo?

I called them a few weeks ago and I was supposedly going to be shipped some, but I have not yet received them. I continue to do the discharge solution without problem.

The grommets definitely fixed the problem on both of my minidocks.
I used to experience the problem at least 40% of the docking attempts. Since installing the grommets it has not happened once in the two weeks since they were installed.

Thanks very much!

I just wanted to give a shout to everyone here who has consistently pursued this issue and posted about it. Thanks to you guys, I am no longer tearing my hair out and have a field kit on the way!
Forwarded the link on to my work buddies with T60s and our IT staff as well... The official machines around here are Dells so we Thinkpad snobs have to look out for ourselves.
Thanks again!

Just received my field kits and preliminary results are positive.
Just thought is was worth mentioning that I have used the Thinkpad Essential Port Replicator for over a year without encountering this problem but after receiving a replacement battery (manufactured by Panasonic) due to the recall , I started to have this problem immediately.
It seems that serpico might have a valid theory regarding the Panasonic batteries being involved.

Yes - i have the panasonic battery and had the problem. Hopefully another battery recall is not forthcoming!

How do you tell which battery you have?

Open the Power Manager and select the Battery information tab. If the Power Manager guage is not displayed on the Task Bar, you can start it via Start->All Programs->ThinkVantage->Power Manager.

OK I have a Sanyo and I had static problems with the dock until I got the rubber booties. Problems have mostly gone away but I still occasionally lose keyboard input when docking/undocking and have to cycle through standby to get it back.

Aha!!! this would explain why I never had this issue for the first 6 months. It was shortly after putting in the replacement battery (checked and it is from Panasonic) that I too started having this problem.

What you are saying is that
YOU did not like the 'tone' of my post.
I did not say anything that would not have been said in network television or even daytime TV for that matter.
And I actually thought it was humorous. I regret that you did not.

Bing0, let us not drag personal opinions here. I did find it funny, but you will not see any explicit posts or use of such language anywhere on the forum. If you see a post in similar vein, you will also see a moderator edit. I was just trying to warn you, no offense meant.

No problem.
I was thinking that there couldn't have been anything negative associated with this comment.
I am sorry for taking that the wrong way gator.

More importantly, I don't like that tone either. Cut it out.

Still experiencing problem after installing field kit

Is anyone still having the problem after installing the rubber boots? If I forget to discharge manually before docking, the TP powers off.

Rubber boots help, but its a good idea to go into standby before docking to avoid weird problems.

The boots fixed a lot of problems for me. I can dock in standby. Sometimes the keyboard doesn't work after coming out of standby but I just put it back in standby and out again and that fixes it. I don't have any problems with it shutting down when docking in standby.

Hello, new to this post, will accept any help I can get.
T60 2623-DQU, Window XP Pro / SP3, BIOS 79ETE5WW (2.25)
I have a new possibly related issue. While I was able to avoid the shut down issue utilizing a grounding fix deployed by my IT dept, and entering standby before docking/undocking, my machine has recently started shutting down while docking in standby. What is uncommon about this situation, is that the system will not power up unless it is 1) undocked, 2) battery is removed, and 3) power supply connected directly to the laptop (battery can be reinserted at this time).
This happens consistently now when docking and will also happen if I am undocked in standby and attach the power supply to the laptop. In either case, the system will not power up unless the battery is removed and the power supply reinserted directly to the laptop. I have performed a battery guage reset and it seems to be charging/discharging properly. I apologize if this post is premature, but I will also secure a different battery to see if the behaviour is the same.
Thanks, ausdun

Are the conductive rubber grommets still available please?
My T61p (6460 DVU running XP SP3) hangs everytime I return it to the ultrabase.
Where can I get the grommets please and what else can you recommend that I do.
Thank you,
Philip
