T60 wireless card problem
T60 wireless card problem
Hi,
I have used my T60 for a month now. Sometime, when I use the wirless for about 1 hour, the wireless will stop working.
If I try to use Fn-F5, it won't bring up the wireless set up panel. (same with the access connection panel). The strange thing is the icon on the desktop toolbar indicates it is still connected.
The only way to make wireless work again is to restart the machine.
I have called lenovo support and they will send me a new card to try it out.
Just wonder if anyone has similar problem since I am not sure replacing the card will fix the problem.
thanks/chong

I am having the same problem, Access Connections 4.12 doesn't think a wireless adapter is present. However when I enable Wireless Zero Configuration, the card is detected and it always shows up in Device Manager. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling both Access Connections and the 3945ABG adapter.
When Access Connections is enabled then Wireless Zero Configuration in services is disabled. I just went into services and started it. I could not get Access Connections to see wireless device and Fn+F5 shows only bluetooth. So I uninstalled Access Connections once more and left it that way. This laptop and wireless works great, only without Access Connections!
I wanted to do a factory image reinstall, someone that had it before me had done their own image, minus the service partition. I called IBM to request the recovery CD set for a T60 and was told $75. I then called our vendor and they said that IBM/Lenovo does not send the CD's with new T60's so they had none they could provide to us. I am curious if anyone else that bought a T60 direct received it without the recovery CD's. I find that rather hard to believe although I was not suprised to hear that coming from our vendor....

Downgrade wlan driver to the previous version:
10.5.0.0 API [7AWC22WW] -> 10.1.1.3 API [7AWC16WW]
link to the older driver:
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/mo ... wc16ww.exe
it has fixed the same problem for me (no WLAN control after FN+F5)

I took the next step and bought the 11a/b/g Wireless PCI-Express Adapter and it just works perfectly. I then loose the centrino logo when turning on the machine but who cares. The 11a/b/g card from Lenovo is _way_ better.

I tried everything. From changing the powersaving settings, to preamble to forcing 802.11B. Nothing did work. I think the driver software doesn't exept any bad behavior of any kind, so if something isn't as Intel expect it to be it doesn't connect.claudeo wrote:The power saving settings on the wireless card might be causing problems. Before changing the card or downgrading the driver, you might try to change the settings to full power, lowest battery life.
All the same, it should not happen.
For sale: Loads of Intel 3945ABG Wireless cards!

Its very dependend on the Wireless AP that it connects to and what type of encryption it uses. I use 802.1x eap-peap (WPA-TKIP/AES) and that combination is apparently not a good one.claudeo wrote:That is the adapter I have in my new T60. It's been on 16 hours a day for over a week and it has been rock solid. Something else must be at play. I don't have the other radio options though.
