Will the ThinkPad 2nd HDD Adapter (41U3148) work in a T60p?

#1 Post by Ender17 » Sun Sep 03, 2006 12:47 pm

I'd like to add a second hard drive to my T60p and I want a regular ATA, not a SATA, since the 160GB drives only come in ATA.

Will the "ThinkPad 2nd HDD Adapter for Ultrabay Slim", part number 41U3148 work in my T60p?

It doesn't have the T60p listed under the compatibility section, but I remember reading somewhere that it did work.

Would like a definite answer before I order.

I tried my 2nd harddisk adapter for my T41 in a T60p.

It worked fine.

The picture looks nothing like the one that I have, but if it's the same part as what I have, then it should work just fine.

I have a PATA hard drive and a 2nd HDD ultraslim bay from my T40 that I've used with my T60p successfully. The only "problem" if you could call it that, is the front face of the drive bay has an indent to match the T4 series, whereas the T60's have a "flat" side face.

I'm sure the aesthetics shouldn't be all that bothersome.

It is funny. If you look up a T60p accesories you will see 41U3148 show up. I called IBM twice and they said it would not work, but that did not make since to me. My DVD out of a t42p works, so why wouldn't this ??

Anyway thanks so much to the people that confirmed this, I have 5 notebook drives already and didn't want to invest in the new drives. I am off to ebay to find an adapter.

Thanks again

I posted a thread about the very same topic last week:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=34898

There were detailed discussions in that thread, and people have confirmed that the PATA adapter does work in a T60.
Now: T60 2613-EKU | T23 2647-9NU | 600X 2645-9FU | HP 100LX
Past: X31 2673-Y13 | T41 2374-3HU | T22 2647-AEU

Rules of the road :thumbs-UP:

If you remove whatever you have in your T60's slim bay and look inside with a flashlight, you'll see two connectors: a PATA and a SATA.

Slim-bay devices, either PATA or SATA, work in a T60. The only thing I've found that doesn't work is a T4x slim battery in a T60.
Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care.
