Quick Question

I need a new notebook and I have access to the EPP program. I'm planning on getting a T60 and want to know if I should buy now or wait for merom. My main concern is price and I'm just wondering if I should expect a price increase in a merom equipped T60 when compared to an identically configured T60, minus the merom processor. Thanks for the help.

I would expect so, just because the Meroms will cost lenovo more money (because they are the "hot new thing"). But I don't think you will see that much of a performance difference, at least it won't be easily noticably in day to day use (maybe save a little time compiling the linux kernel, or something like that). Yonahs use the new architecture don't they?

1. im not going to talk about EPP but in general about the pricing. you can calculate EPP yourself since we not suppose to talk about it in here.
2. i was thinking about waiting for merom too just like you but the labor day sale is really nice. I don't think there will be merom sale like the yonah sale right now for quite a while. so if you are willling to wait until christmass or so then go for it.
3. as much as i've learned in this forum core duo is already really good for notebooks. the only significant improvement seems to be more 4Mb cache instead of 2Mb. Now this could be significant if you are planning on playing a lot of new games. But for serious gaming you should get a desktop instead of laptop. Personally i like to play occasional games at night. I don't need the best graphics or performance and i usually settle for minimum systerm requirements.
4. the 64 bit is not going to be a change overnight. in my opinion most people will be using 32 bit for a long while and so will this transition be very slow. in other words there will be always softwere available in 32 bit.
5. me being in the same situation as you, im going to buy core duo right now. its good, its been around for a while and tested and the labor sale has a great sale for it.
