Not sure if this is the riht forum.
I am trying to get my data from from my old Thinkpad to my T60. I have succesfully connected it to my wireless network. But i cant seem to get the T60 to 'see' my other pc's (2 other computers). I have tried all the tricks i know, but I still cant get it to network with the other computers.
Did I mention, I cant even get it to 'see' itself.
Any help is appreciated

You might try the networking forum at
www.dslreports.com
There are gurus there who have seen every trick in the book.
Be sure to mention that you have the enterprise version of Symantec Client Security, unless you removed it.

If both machines have File and Printer Sharing they should be able to 'see' each other.
Or just go to Run -> <type name of machine or IP address> followed by the share.
E.g. \\oldcomputer\C$
E.g \\192.168.0.3\C$

In theory they should. But the firewall gets in the way. With Symantec Client Security you have to configure it to allow "trusted" file and printer sharing connections to and from computers on the network. There are some wizard to do it but they're not easy to find. The worst is that since this is a "trial" version neither Lenovo nor Symantec support it. On my T60, Symantec decided to corrupt its own trial license after 8 days. After wasting several hours to try to fix it (that's how I found out about the lack of support) I decided it was not worth my time and just wiped it off. Or at least I tried. The provided uninstaller still leaves dozens of files and hundreds of registry entries clogging up your system.
I understand that Symantec *pays* Lenovo to preinstall that expensive trash, and I guess Lenovo also gets a kickback if the user then buys the full product. I would gladly pay an extra 2 bucks to *not* have it preinstalled. As for the kickback, forget it in this case.
BTW, after uninstalling that stuff you really do need a good antivirus and check that the Windows firewall is up and set up correctly.

I have similar issues. My T60p can see all my other machines, but those other machines cant see the t60p. Same thing happened with my T23. Weird. I am running Windows Live One Care, but have had the same issue using different firewall programs. Thoughts?

My T60 came with the default "Simple file sharing" mode used in XP home-- AFAIK all the machines in a workgroup must use the same file sharing scheme. I usually turn off simple file sharing and make sure that there is a user with the same name and password defined on each machine. Note that for some reason the Guest user was also enabled by default. Definitely to be disabled.
