Just wondering if everyone's APS is as sensitive as mine. Set on the highest setting, my hard drive will park even if I lift it off the floor onto my lap. Even a slight tilt, sets it off. Does anyone else experience this?

I can also here a little click when it parks. Didnt notice this on T43, but that had a Hitachi, and my T60 has a Fujisu.

My T41 does the same thing. Having suffered a total hard drive crash a couple of years ago with (then new) 7200-rpm Hitachi drive, I am reluctant to use anything but the most sensitive setting. ... JD Hurst

Are there any T60 users out there who can hear the hard drive park when movement is detected?

Please let me know.

If I listen very carefully I can hear it park.
What is the problem?

on my T60p i do NOT hear a click when the HDD parks..
i am using an hitachi 100gig 7200rpm drive..

i can not hear a click when the HDD parks..

i must admit to having a bit of a "tin" ear but when i put the tin ear to the palmrest over the HDD i can hear it seek and spin..
and stop when i move the thinkpad..

i don't think your click is unusual..

but if you are concerned, run some diags on the HDD..

Yup, mine makes a clicking noise whenever it stops. I have it set on the medium setting, and yes it clicks whenever i move it around. Even if i life up the front to look underneath it, it will click. I always thought it was normal. :D

Just wanted to give everyone an update to my problem. After talking with a technician at Lenovo, they decided to send me a replacement hard drive. This time I requested a Hitachi drive instead of the Fujitsu.

After installing the drive and re-installing all the software, I am happy to report that the "clicking" noise that I heard earlier is gone. My only conclusion is that the Fujitsu drive had some issues, as this Hitachi drive does not make a noise.

Thanks,

Sean

Or, rather simply, the Hitachi drive doesn't click as loud as the Fujitsu did when it parks its heads. :D

The Fujitsu in my T42 is very quiet. In my previous ThinkPad, a 600E, I had an IBM Travelstar (Hitachi). When it was active, it was clicking all the time. Go figure. :?

Who Knows?

Yeah, can't explain that one. I'm just glad the sound is now gone.
