Question about recover the hard disk
Question about recover the hard disk
I have a T60. My system crashed recently. I am thinking about using the blue key to restore windows xp. Does the recover need activition of windows xp?
With recent model ThinkPads, if you use the Product Recovery Disc set on a new hard drive, the Service Partition is created and you have everything like it came from the factory. If you use the Product Recovery Disc set on your existing hard drive, which has the original partitions, then you should have no problem either. Make sure your BIOS security for the Predesktop Area is set to normal before you start.
Some users have reported problems when they used partitioning software to change the original partitions on the hard drive. Your best bet in this case is to delete all partitions before starting. One user reported he also had to overwrite his hard disk with zeros before the Product Recovery Disc set worked properly (I don't remember which model ThinkPad this was on).
I believe you have to also set the Hard Disk to compatibility mode in the BIOS before you start.
I do not have a T60, but I base the above from my experience with my T42, and with what I have read in these forums.

hi
im not sure that i understand your answer correctly. I had T40 before and when i use Recovery Procedure in Predesktop Area, everything will be recovered normaly (in Factory State).
@GomJabbar: thanks for your reply
Any comments with T60 Models ?

Is this correct ? It's true that all partition will be deleted. But I dont think that it makes another "Service Partition" like old ones. Anyway i want to keep my old hidden "Service Partition" and i'll set it to secure mode before i do anything with Recovery CD-Sets.With recent model ThinkPads, if you use the Product Recovery Disc set on a new hard drive, the Service Partition is created and you have everything like it came from the factory.
