According to what I've gleaned from this forum, T60 Widescreeens are coming as soon as this month. The guy I spoke with today was pretty open about the T61p's being a while away.

Who knows, though.. I bit the bullet and ditched my (extremely fast) 17" dell for a z61p today. There will always be something newer.. (but not yet!)

Ugh I'm going to try to find a T60p on eBay this is getting tiring. I hope that a BIOS upgrade is available for the Core 2 Duo...

Lenovo wake up... Summer? Come on... This is not IBM...

Sadly, no, I was hoping for a 14.1" with IPS/Flexview, but that's only for the 15.1" re-read it. It's written all on the same line. :(

You got me all excited for a moment :P

Anyone know what the differences are between a V5200 and a V5250?

Thanks!

Well my new friends, welcome to the major leagues... What I am gonna say sounds a little silly but here I go: Yesterday I saw some chineese pics of a T60 Core solo dissasembled, and boy! the roll cage, the mainboard plaque, all the circuitry and general craftmanship was awesome! so that I came to the following conclution, no matter the T60 configuration you can get in your contry buy one because these machines are the best of the crop!!

I had explored the web page Lenovo has for different countries and in many of them trough Europe to Latin America it is impossible to get a hand on one of rhe top edge T60's, however as I said before just getting one of the series would be a wise decision... (You are welcome Lenovo...)

Me thinks they're going to milk the T60 series as long as possible, then release the T61's with Santa Rosa chipsets.

Anyone know anything about a

2623-K5U or a 2623-K8U? I got a response from the Canadian rep and they said those were the new T60 models up here but nothing seems to exist anywhere with those numbers.

This is pretty horrible. I was waiting for a T60p with Core 2 Duo and UXGA. I was also considering waiting for a widescreen T-series with perhaps a WUXGA screen (the Z61p is too thick). But I am near the end of the line, and may have to get something shortly. The closest thing I've found so far is a Dell Latitude D820, which has Core 2 Duo, WUXGA screen, Quadro 120M video, and the ability to add a second hard drive in the modular bay. I tried the keyboard on a D620, and while it's not quite the old Thinkpad-quality, its decent. Frankly, I've been disappointed with the keyboards in the Thinkpads ever since the T41. The Latitude has a magnesium casing, and is about the same thickness as a 15" T60. I hate the thought of not getting another Thinkpad, but I don't see a viable option in sight. Argh..

I didn't think 1.4" vs 1.54" was that big of a difference.. have you handled a z61p? (I have not.. yet)

It's a pretty huge difference, just as there's a huge difference between the 1.4" T60p 15" vs 1.2" T60 14". Some people may disagree, but for me, the thinness has been one of the main reasons I've continuously been lured to the T-series (and the 600/500 series before that). I settled with the 15" T out of loyalty, but still hoped that someday IBM/Lenovo would come out with a 15" that is wider, but not thicker. The Z61p is 1.58", which is thicker than most Dell Inspirons, which I consider to be monsters. Again, many people may feel this to be a small concern - but it's a pretty big one for me.

For reference, the HP nx8440/nx8430 15" laptops are 1.1-1.2" (about the thickness of a 14" T-series), and the Macbook Pro is 1.0" thick.

I'm not too concerned with the size of the z61p that I've ordered (the refresh is listed as being 1.54" high), as I'm coming from a 17" Dell xps. Which is a 1.8" thick, 9lb/4.2kg beast, and needs a new keyboard after six months. Thus my Thinkpad order :)

Please let us know how you like it! With the exception of the thickness, I like everything else about the Z61p. Spec-wise, it has everything I'd want. Compared to an XPS, I'm sure it'll be feather-weight!

I'm at a loss for why those of you wanting a widescreen T-series dont just get a Z series. Am I missing something?

The 15" Z-series are too thick and bulky. In terms of form-factor, they are of no match to the T-series. This is all assuming that if they released a T-series widescreen, that it would be thinner. Other than that, there is no difference between the Z's and T's as far as I'm concerned.

If anyone gets definative information on if it will be IPS and 1920x1200 please please post it... I'm leaning towards a fully loaded Z61p but before I spend 3k+ and do not get an IPS screen I want to be sure of the widescreen T60p display specs.

I have a T60P; my wife has a Z61P. The difference in thickness is noticeable, but I would still consider it acceptable. My previous laptop was an A31P, so anything thinner than a Portable PC would seem thin to me. There may be concerns about making something so wide too thin, as it could flex the chassis too much. My employer warns us not to pick up our T-series machines by the edge because of this. It the Z61P screen was FlexView and if I had a choice, I would definitely choose it over the T60P.

LOL! I bought my A31p recently and it's one of the thickest modern laptop that I have ever seen. Is it even thicker than the R series and other A series models? And how does it compare to the G series? (I saw a G40 a long time ago but don't remember it well.)

Widescreen T series??

Is this true? Can we have some sources or more information?

I'm having a sudden hit of buyer's remorse- I just ordered my T60p yesterday

Is it widescreen + gloss screen? Is it just widesreen w/ anti-glare finish?

What are the screen sizes? 14, 15? Maybe a 13.3 like Apple? Whare are the display resolution options?

This is making me go crazy now, I don't want to cancel my order, but I don't want to own it for a month and wish I had waited a couple more weeks to order

But the A31P is a three spindle machine.
and one of the best.

Did you notice the appeareance of wifi MIMO draft-n on the T60 page ? It's part for comparision between T43s / T60s / T60s models ...

But when you configure any T60, you don't get to choose such a thing. Does it mean the new T60 Core 2 Duo are shipped with a dormant wifi N card, like the macbook pro and iMac are ?

I am confused about this :?

802.11n uses an Atheros based card that apparently is not yet available. I think a sales person said in a week or two. Might want to call to see if option is available and just not on web yet.

1/8th of an inch huge?!?! You're talking about the thickness of two quarters. The "tabook" lists the Z61p as (WxDxH): 14.1" x 10.3" x 1.47-1.58" Without the alloy cover, it's probably 1.47. And the Fire GL card in Z is much better than the Nvidia card, imo. That, combined with the higher res thinkpad UXGA screen and all the other thinkpad features:
Integrated Fingerprint Reader
ThinkPad Roll Cage
Active Protection System
Shock-Mounted Hard Drive
Client Security Solution

Extras that most people ignore, but just some of the engineering aspects that make Thinkpad superior.
