Thinkvantage System Update and Wireless Driver

#1 Post by Optigrab » Wed Sep 20, 2006 8:42 pm

Looking at Thinkvantage System Update, it lists an optional update that will update the wireless driver to 10.1.1.3 API. I have a T60p with 3945ABG currently at driver 10.1.0.11.

I am wondering why Thinkvantage System Update is offering an update to 10.1.1.3 when the latest driver is 10.5.0.0 API as stated in this post:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 200#199200

Furthermore, the update description states that there is no use in me applying the update to 10.1.1.3:

"If you are using the following cards, you have no need to apply this version because the Wireless LAN driver files for the cards are not changed in this version. - Intel PRO/Wireless 3945BG Network Connection, - Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection"

So why doesn't Thinkvantage System Update offer to update my wireless drivers to 10.5.0.0?

Should I manually update to 10.5.0.0, or have there been reports of problems or no improvement?

Many thanks.

Since there is a minor issue involving LEAP security with the new driver, they are going to hold off making it an automatic update, until that is resolved....this is listed on the driver webpage, Known issues....

The driver posted plugs a security vulnerability in the intel wireless subsystem.

If you don't use LEAP, I would apply the driver.
