Screen Redraw/Rendering Issues

Hey everyone, been a while since I been on.

One thing that has been happening ever since I got my T60 (2007-63U, Duo 2.0GHz, Radeon X1400, 1400x1050) is that sometimes when there is a diagram showing on the screen (e.g. Word, Visio, PowerPoint diagrams) the screen flickers when it redraws and consumes heaps of CPU.

For example, have a fairly complicated powerpoint slide open, switch to another window in front, then switch back to the powerpoint slide and the laptop pretty much locks up while it sits there redrawing the diagram. This can last up to 10 seconds or so. By comparison, any T43 or single-core T60 doesn't have this problem.

Anyone else seen this issue? I have done a little searching, but no-one else seems to have the problem?

I am running ATI Driver Packaging Version 8.241.1-060324a-031947C-Lenovo

Cheers

Same here. However
a) Get same behaviour with the ATI Catalyst drivers
b) Also had this on a T40

.. so a general ATI issue, MS office or XP problem, but possibly not T60p specific.

I would say that it is near impossible for the Ati card to have difficulties with a simple 2D image.

What happens if you copy/open the image in another app (paint, photoshop, firefox), do these programs also have problems with the image? probably not.
You could also try to open the powerpoint file with openoffice (which is better anyway), and see what happens.

I'm guessing that its just Office that causes the problem.

Thanks for the replies!

Good (sorta) to know that I am not the only one experiencing the issue... Very interesting that it happened on a T40 as well.

It doesn't seem to happen with plain 2D bitmaps, it only seems to occur with vector graphics (like Visio diagrams).

I will try your suggestion of OO.o anyhow....
