Hi,

When I install this PCMCIA card (F5U513ea) , it messes up windows xp on my T60p.

Any suggestions on how to solve this?

that's a little vague... what about windows does it mess up?

You're right. That wasn't very precise.

When I install the pcmcia card, the machine won't boot again. I have to go back to the most recent boot which worked (or whatever it's called in the windows startup).

For some cards, you are supposed to install the software before inserting the card. Did you do that? ... JD Hurst

There's no specific software. The manual states that windows finds the drivers ... and it does find some drivers - they just don't really work very well.

When I insert the card, I lose internet access. When I try to reboot, the machine stalls in the boot-up sequence.

Faulty card? Return it if you may and see if a replacement remedies the problem.

It looks like a faulty card - there are no drivers for it.

@teerex: open device manager (My Computer -> Manage), look for the device and see if it says:
IEEE 1394 Bus Controller. Then click the “+” sign next to the
entry for “IEEE 1394 Bus Controller”. You should find an entry for
“Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller”.

Thanks, that's the only part I've been able to track down also. That's exactly the entry, I find in my device manager - yet it doesn't work

Here is an idea. With the card plugged into the T60, uninstall the Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller in Device Manager. To do this, right click on it and choose to uninstall. Next try disabling the Infrared device, and/or the Modem in Device Manager. Now reboot the T60 with the Belkin card still inserted. After Windows is fully up see if the card works. I suggested disabling the Infrared Controller and the Modem to free up some resources for the Belkin card. Many people do not use either of these anyway.

If the above doesn't work, you can always reenable the devices you disabled.

Thanks for the suggestion, GomJ. I tried it - with no luck I had to reboot to a previous windows configuration.

I don't have any suggestions on how to get your system back to working but I can make a suggestion for a good card to try if you give up on the one you have. I have used an Adaptec 2 Port USB 2 and 2 Port FireWire card without a problem on my T60p. As a matter of fact the card is on sale right now at CompUSA. Check out the link at:

I just may have to buy a different card. Does this card come with drivers or does it use Texas Instrument driver as the Belkin does?

Rex,
I don't recal installing any drivers. The installation CD is still in the sealed sleeve so I suspect it installed without additional drivers. The Installation Guide indicates the same for XP, whereas it looks like Win2K needs the drivers. The guide is at:

I don't have my T60p with me right now but, it looks like you should have the drives in WinXP if that's what you're using.

So far I have tried three different cards on my T60. The first one didn't recognize that I had plugged a camera in. The second and third crashed my computer. I tried to find a specific one mentioned above but it is available only on ebay or refurbished, and I don't want to buy it if I can't return it. Is it possible my Carbus slot is bad? Or do I just need to keep trying different cards until I find one that works??
