Hello everbody,

can anybody share his experience using a 15,4" WUXGA Display (1900x1200)

I've been working for years on an 15" UXGA (1600x1200) Display without any dificulties to read the screen content, but having 300 Pixels more, doesn't this lead into very small characters.

Thanks.

the charactersize will be the same, the only thing different is that you will have some extra 'real estate', some extra screenspace.

yes, but the physical screen size differs only for 0,4", and i'm wondering how the 300 additional pixels will fit there, without shrinking the characters.

The 1920x1200 15" screens have VERY small pixels. I use a 1600x1200 15", and it's about right. Personally I think the 1920x1200 is too high res on that sized screen, despite the fact I usually prefer the highest res screens I can find. The 1920x1200 on a 15" is readable up close, but I find it quite straining on the eyes. Increasing the windows font size doesnt really help either, because all the images and icons dont resize with the fonts.

Remember that the screen size number is the diagonal. You really need to look at the screen area and PPI (pixels per inch). The 15.4" widescreen has approximately 146ppi (assuming a 16:10 aspect ratio). The 15" 4:3 has about 133ppi. So were talking about a 10% increase in pixel resolution along each axis. For comparison, the 12" 1400x1050 screen on my Tohsiba M200 tablet has approximately the same pixel density (145ppi) as the 1920x1200 15.4" screen. I find that screen's fonts etc. small, but not unbearable.

As foodle so accurately stated in his post there is a 10% difference, as your dpi is 133 and the WUXGA is 146. However that data aside, I would highly suggest that you look at one if at all possible. As I have found that going up in pixels, that 10% can result in a big difference in how much smaller the text and icons appear. Most significantly on the web.

Determining if this will work for you depends on the type of work you are doing, as well as how long you are going to be in front of it on a regular basis. Again, if you spend a lot of time on the web, that is where you are going to notice the reduction in text size, and page rendering.

Even with 20/20 vision and a preference for high resolution displays I find that size to be just too small, as I do a lot of work online. For all other offline work it's OK.
