Hi Guys,

since the T60s in Austria are very high priced and the model - selection is pretty limited im currently thinking about importing a

T60 200776U (International warranty according to lenovo site)

A slightly worse equiped T60 sells for about 2.600 € (~$3280) in austria, import price is around $2200 with shipping allready included.

Archer6 recommended Euclid in a recent post. What I learned from the Search function Euclid is a well respected shop with great customer service. I wasn´t able to find a single bad review about them. Are there any other options with equal/similar quality?:

The following questions are additional points on my "checklist" and I would hope you guys are able to help me out once again:

Will I have to pay taxes or/and customs duty (I heard Euclid doesn´t charge any taxes and I´m wondering if the .gov would care about single packages) ?

Will my 3 years warranty suffer in any way if I buy the Thinkpad in the US but want it to be serviced in Austria? A CS Rep. on the austrian hotline assured me that the import will have no impact but I prefer a 3rd party confirmation here

Has anyone done an import to Austria before and is willing to share his/her experiences ?

I dont mind an english OS (even though it obviously isn´t my mothers tongue, sorry for any mistakes I make), the keybord can be changed if necessary. Is there an option to change the language of the ThinkVantage software?

Anything else i should consider before risking an import?

Hi,

I just ordered a T60p 2007-86U from Euclid, from France, I know write this message on the machine. The guys at Euclid were very communicative during the payment process (bank transfer), and up to the delivery, I had no problems. Windows and keyboard are in English but that's ok since I use that language most of the time for work and I'm used the the QWERTY keyboard.

I had to pay a fee to my bank for wire (40 euros), then VAT (450 euros), but even with all these (and 114$ shipping), the ending price with an extra Gig of memory was about 2700 euros, when the same machine without the extra memory is priced 4500 euros in france. yes, 4500 - crazy.


IBM sells french keyboards for T60p for 40 euros too - quite cheap.

And I called lenovo and IBM here, before purchasing, they said the machine could be serviced in europe. You should call Lenovo Austria for the Guarantee.

But as far as Euclid is concerned, thumbs up.

Yes, I bought my last ThinkPad from Cost Central. I was happy with the purchase. The price couldn't be beat. Technical support before the sale regarding features in the models I was interested in was weak. I had to call IBM directly to get accurate information (this is before the sale to Lenovo). They did carry many models in stock.

Not sure about the duties, but most likely you will need to pay the VAT (which is 20% in Austria AFAIK) so it may be more reasonable to (a) research prices in other EU countries first or (b) buy the computer in person (or have somebody do it for you) and bring it in your hand luggage, which shouldn't draw any attention from the customs (unless it explodes )
