Trying Again...

I recently installed an advanced mini-dock with my ThinkPad T60p and have not had any success in using the DVI port with an IBM 18" T85D LCD monitor. When I try to set the T85D up as a second monitor (whether spanning the desktop or showing the same image on the LCD and external monitor), the display does not work and it resumes the display on the laptop LCD. I've tried using IBM Presentation Director, the ATI switching tool and the Windows display properties dialog with no luck. With the ATI tool, it just says that it cannot display that mode. Even if I try to display the external LCD alone, it reverts to the internal display with no error message. I suspect a defect in the mini-dock or the DVI port. I've tested all connections and powered everything completely on and off and docked and undocked several times. The monitor works fine in my T43p dock with my T43p.

If I boot the laptop with the lid closed, the display on the external monitor will show the IBM logo and Windows logo upon boot-up, then it blue screens with an unexplained error before it gets to the Windows log-on screen. I can see some video noise before this happens. I updated the BIOS and video drivers to the latest versions, but that didn't help. Does anyone else have any other ideas?

Thank you for any help you can provide.

The T85D has a native resolution of 1280x1024. Set your resolution to that, switch over to the external display, and see if that works.

Tried it, thanks

Thank you for your reply RonS. I tried that too, but it didn't work. In fact, I tried it with the internal LCD on and off at that resolution. Any other suggestions?

Have you gone into the bios and tried the different BOOT DISPLAY DEVICE options ..... as in BIOS --> CONFIG--->DISPLAY-->BOOT DISPLAY DEVICE ... ex. " DVI + LCD " ?
